First off, to all of our readers and writers: FELIZ AÑO NUEVO! / HAPPY NEW YEAR! It is indeed the first day of 2011 and the Orange Juice Blog continues on!

There have been many changes in the past month or so, but count on the OJ being freshly squeezed and always a refreshing read. We have new bloggers joining in the fray from all sides of the political spectrum continuing Orange Juice Blog’s tradition as a unique space in the multimedia landscape. Too many outlets practice “ideological ghettoization” and that’s true from national mediums of communication as well as the major blog sites in Orange County. You can visit other websites to get a so-called “Liberal” perspective or a “Conservative” one if you consider yourself of either stripe and yet never or rarely see anything challenged – most importantly your own views – beyond the comments section.

If singularly reconfirming your political perspectives is your thing, keep visiting those sites! But if you want a blog that takes all kinds of views on the news and puts them in the blender, Orange Juice is the place to be. Among our new additions are the Liberal OC’s banished Anaheimer Steve Perez, the self-proclaimed Conservative Hirota, Rashad the Happy Arab, Geoff Willis, and the individualist libertarian of Irvine going by the handle of Guy Fawkes. The OJ whipper-snapper new juice bloggers join the politically diverse old timers: Vern Nelson, Ron & Anna Winship, Over But Not Out, Larry Gilbert, Duane Roberts, and the cross postings of Tony Bushala’s 4F crew. Me? I’ve only been around for six months. And we’re still looking for and actively recruiting women writers to fill the void of Red Vixen and to not be the “sausage fest” that other blogs are.

The blend has already been in the mix for a couple weeks now. Hirota and Guy Fawkes have both stirred up debates along ideological lines that have driven up the comments count. One suggestion for your future posts: Try to keep it more local, locos! That’s what the OJ brand is all about and your bents will help keep it fresh! If you have a national/international/philosophical post, find an OC angle if possible. If not, go on with your bad self! (Just not too often)

And with that, here’s a tall glass toast of Orange Juice to the New Year! If readers have any suggestions on how to make 2011 the best yet for this blog…post them below. Player Haters welcomed!
