Noon to 3 TODAY (Wednesday) at Teamsters Local Union Hall, 140 Marks Way in Orange, Democracy For America OC invites you to a Single-Payer Luncheon with the California Nurses Association. Oh yeah? What’s Single Payer, and why do we need it in California?
Most of us agree that our health care system is in crisis, with its skyrocketing prices being the main driver of our economic woes, with 40,000+ Americans dying each year for lack of care, and over a million Americans going bankrupt annually due to illness or injury – and most of those had “insurance” before their misfortune which didn’t help them enough!
We saw with the long Obamacare struggle (which was ARGUABLY a small step forward for Americans’ health) how difficult it is to take on the all-powerful interests of Big Insurance and Big Pharma. The only way to really cut costs while covering all of us is to cut out the completely unnecessary and parasitic insurance profiteers, by creating a single-payer system like every civilized nation has.
We can see that it’s gonna be a long time before the United States of America is ready to do that. But the states are “the laboratories of democray” as Justice Brandeis famously said, and Obamacare does encourage individual states to pursue universal health care in their own ways, as long as they can promise at least the coverage and the savings that Obamacare itself does.
So far, Vermont has beat us to be the first single-payer state. But California can do it next. We have a vibrant single-payer activist tradition here, and this author (Vern) is proud to have been a member of Health Care For All California since 2005, having started the Orange County chapter and grown it to several hundred members before moving on in his ADHD way to become a blogger and handing the reins over to the worthy Jan Meslin. But we’ll all be here today:
Wednesday, July 20, noon to 3
Teamsters Local Union 952 Hall, 140 Marks Way, Orange CA
Democracy For America Orange County invites you to a Health Care Luncheon with California Nurses Association to help bring Single Payer to California!

Actually, single payer doesn’t even need to be the demise of the private insurance industry. You can have a basic plan made available by the government, and ALSO have a private insurance market where people buy add-ons.
“this author (Vern) is proud to have been a member of Health Care For All California since 2005″…….. Hmmmm
So, what happened in 2005?
The COPs beat your brains to a submission during your first DUI?
Although I can sympathize with your humanism comrade Vern the point is that there is not one single example (world wide) that a single payer health insurance, or anything for that mater, works and will not get eventually bankrupt.
We do not get to go too far:
After about 66 years after its enactment (at the time when 100% insured are ready for their payments) Social Security is virtually bankrupt, even though that they let everyone eligible at 65 to starve to death by extending eligibility to 66.
Although schools are payed via taxes they are provided by the government, therefore, they are broke, grave burden on tax base, and if you want any real education you must attend private school like Santa Ana Mater Dei High as you have done.
Unfortunately, your humanistic aspiration exceed your understanding that paying for them can’t come from a single payer the GOVERMANT which is totally broke, with death which can never be payed off.
So where will the single payer get money from?….. when USA Citizens are already taxed as if they would be living socialistic country without getting socialistic benefits now?….. Huh?
China?…. the socialistic country ran by private corporations?
Your socialism is not possible without 85% taxation like was Sweden before they lowered their taxes and returned to concept of a normality.
Please notice that the world is returning to normal system except for USA which elected communist Obama and Brown in Caligornia.
There is no stopping to that until the people get taste of the real socialism and dump it as too bitter.
Trust me!
The one paying the bill gets to dictate the terms.
A single payer system is all about taking away an individual rights.
Nah. As anon noted earlier, we could have a system where rich folks who want the extra Cadillac treatment can kick in the extra bucks for it. It’s all about how we Americans, or we Californians decide to set our single-payer system up.
“All about taking away an individual rights.” What BS. It’s all about keeping Americans alive & healthy while saving billions of dollars a year.
Exactly right. The one paying the bill gets to negotiate with hospitals and big pharma for lower costs. That negotiating power is something NOBODY outside of Medicare currently has. All the power is with big pharma and the insurance companies.
What have they done for you, your family, and friends lately?
“The one paying the bill gets to negotiate with hospitals”…….. Hmmmm
When can you negotiate with the government?…….. Huh?
You are the real idiot not just phony one.
In single payer, the government pays the bills, genius. It’s the hospitals, insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies that bill and are to be negotiated with. You have no negotiating power with the insurance/pharmaceutical companies anyway, so you lose nothing.
That is what I said you idiot!
Hospital asks for $100 payment and government will say go pond the sand here is $10. That is what they do now with Medicare. I can show you my bills.
That is why Medicare sucks
Doctor prescribed to me Azor HBP medication, Medicare said NO you must take some other medication we are not paying for this one…… That is not negotiation that is downgrading of medical care which is synonymous with socialism and single payer.
How long the hospital can provide medicine if it can’t collect for services.
One more thing idiot!……. Single payer is Price fixing not negotiation.
Got any pre-existing conditons? Ooops, looks like you do. I’d like to see you get complete health insurance in the private market. Oh that’s right, you wouldn’t be able to.
People on Medicare like to bitch and moan, but threaten to cut it and watch the shitstorm begin.
Stupid as a door knob!…… as socialists are.
The Medicare is mandatory, otherwise I would have private insurance if the government would return some of my Social Security Tax, 15K per year for 40 years…. idiot.
No, you wouldn’t have private insurance. That’s my point, fascist. You have a pre-existing condition…you’d get turned down.
I told you that you are programed idiot with Obamas talking points.
I turned 65 in February and until then I had private insurance.
Just consider that you are a moron mongoloid which is preexisting condition for you.
You HAD private insurance. HAD. How long did you have that policy? A lot has changed in the individual policy market…changes you’re clearly unaware of. If you dropped Medicare and tried to apply for an individual policy NOW, you’d get turned down. It wouldn’t even be a close call. Got high blood pressure? Denied coverage.
But go ahead…remain clueless.
I can’t no longer carry this unintelligent discussion fit the brainteaser communist like you.
