Truth be told, president Obama has more on his Agenda than the crucial August 2nd target for approving the 2012 budget and increasing the Federal Debt Ceiling. He wants to attend a major fundraiser that will be held in conjunction with his 50th birthday that is being celebrated on Aug 3rd at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago.
We have heard that ticket costs for this re-election fundraiser range up to $35,800 per couple “which includes VIP seating at a “Birthday Concert” where celebs will be performing and a dinner with the president.” And for $10,000 you can have a photo taken with the president that entitles you to preferred seating at the concert.His actual birthday, according to the copy of his birth certificate that I picked up in Hawaii, is August 4th (at 7:24 p.m.)
Speaker Boehner. Do not force me to remain in Washington DC through August 3rd when I have more important tasks on my plate. And let me also point out that whatever we agree on, make sure that it extends past the November 2012 General Election as I surely do not want this to be another campaign issue that I have to defend next fall.
On April 15th, three months ago, Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan was passed by the House by a vote of 235 to 193 without a single Democrat voting for it. The Senate voted it down. While not perfect, our side took this fiscal responsibility seriously and should not be faulted today for letting this financial resolution drag on until the August 2nd clock is about to strike.
From the tone of these high level talks this stand-off reminds me of Gary Cooper in the movie High Noon where the citizens of the town might be viewed as those in Congress and the White House who refuse to reduce the size of our federal government.
While not a betting man, who will be the last man standing?
To describe a plan that had absolutely no chance of passing as “serious” is laughable.
It wasn’t serious…it was political theater.
You mean like Obama’s “plan” that went down 97-0? If Ryan’s budget was theater, Obama’s was slapstick.
Larry, I know your old, but no one travels by covered wagon anymore. Believe it or not, Obama could go to Chicago and back again all in one evening.
Anonster. If we stayed with covered wagons we would not have the gas crisis and freeway gridlock experienced in our state. Just think of the billions of dollars we could save without funding HSR.
And you also benefit from free fertilizer. It’s a win-win.
As to the president’s ability to fly back and forth we have all seen the bills for his and the first lady’s global adventures representing America to leaders who take our money because they are our allies and support us with their votes in the UN. Not really.
“….we have all seen the bills for his and the first lady’s global adventures..”
You can’t help yourself, you’re just a partisan pr*ck and a major league hypocrite (otherwise I could point to all your posts complaining about the cost of flying the ever vacationing Bush’s, back and forth from Crawford).
Just a reminder of what is in our “rearview mirror”;
From the Smirking Chimp;
….. And how were the “optics” when First Lady Laura Bush got a $700 haircut for the 2005 Inauguration? Or when Laura Bush went on vacation with her girlfriends along with an entourage of 25 in tow? And how were the “optics” when the taxpayers spent more than $20 million flying the Bushes back and forth to their vacation retreat in Crawford, Texas?
How were those “optics”? They were just fine because nobody in the Beltway press corps ever cared about Laura Bush’s “optics.” Instead, for eight years she was, without question, deemed off-limits to any sort of sustained scrutiny. First Lady Bush was off-limits in a way that her Democratic predecessor, Hillary Clinton, was not. And she was off-limits in a way that her current Democratic successor most certainly is not. …
