The Penn State cautionary tale

Who was Ray Gricar?  Not Joe Paterno, not Sandusky, not the Penn State Officials, not the State College, Pennsylvania Police, not the State Attorney General, not the Governor, not the entire BCS, not College Football in General.  No,  Ray Gricar was the local DA that did not prosecute Sandusky in 1998.  Ray Gricar retired as DA in 2005 without doing anything about the Sandusky affair.  Ray Gricar turned up missing in 2005.  His Mini-Cooper found unattended, his laptop missing and the hard drive.  His wallet and his body have yet to turn up.

This story could have happened in any College Town in America.  Small towns with huge egos!  Huge cover-ups!  Huge pay-offs to local and state police.  Intimidation, lies and felonies some could only dream about – much less believe.  These are the tales of terrible events that sometimes are never resolved, never found out about and with an array of victims who suffer for the rest of their lives.

The Penn State events need an FBI investigation.  There is little doubt that the Penn State horrific debachle wasn[‘t created only at that University.  There are plenty of these stories and cover-ups all around the nation.  Trading of free Tattoos, selling season tickets, trading autographed gear, giving away cars, houses, big jobs after five or six years of football eligibility – these are not felony death sentences for either officials or coaches.  These are firing offenses!  These are offenses that should yeild sanctions against minor corrupt Universities, their staffs, their alumni, their sponsors, their supporters.  The real and terrible events at Penn State need our National attention!  All Universities need to be monitored, overseen at a Federal level.  Student Athletes, Coaches and or University Officials that commit felonies in the course of their activities – should be banned from any University involvement forever!

Those words: “Protect and Serve” need to mean something!  No one person is so big or so powerful that they are either “Above the Law” or “Complict in the Perpetration of a Felony”.  If someone observes a felony and does not report it – they need to be prosecuted and fired as well.

Time for Federal intervention or these issues will never be identified or resolved with any semblance of justice!  Otherwise, the powerful will abuse the weak forever!
