Gouge the Gougers

One doesn’t have to be a rocket scientist to realize that the oil companies are manipulating gas prices and gouging California motorists at the gas pump.  And they have been getting away with it.

Whether it’s all about greed, or whether they are trying to get us to relax air quality standards, or whether they are attempting to influence the election—or all of the above—it’s high time the public did something about it.

OK, what can we do?  Well. we all know the marketplace is driven by supply and demand.  So we need to hit the oil companies where they will feel it the most—in their bottom line (i.e., their profits).

Some of the effective steps motorists can take is to boycott gas stations for a week or more.  How?  Take the Metrolink or bus to work.  Carpool.  Curtail unnecessary trips.  Practice one-stop shopping.  Look into the possibility of getting a hybrid car.  Tear up your Chevron or Exxon-Mobil credit card and send it directly to their respective CEOs.  That will get their attention!

When I was working at Hughes Fullerton in 1978-1979, I drove from my residence in Laguna Niguel to the San Juan Capistrano Amtrak station (this was before Metrolink) and took the train to Fullerton, and then an OCTA shuttle right to the Hughes facility.  So don’t tell me it can’t be done.

As long as we continue to have a dependence on oil, the oil companies will continue to gouge us.  It’s time to fight back.  It’s time to gouge the gougers!
