GOOD NEWS
If the OC Republican establishment have ANY hope of getting their seat back, they should take a break from daydreaming and register for Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva‘s SQS Newsletter. Her flurry of events, public meets, and fundraisers show a dedicated legislator who’s not taking her success for granted.
Westminster is in increasingly better hands. Councilman Sergio Contreras won his election as the top voter in his race, and surprise, surprise, has not resorted to kissing tremendous amounts of republican ass whilst serving. Sergio, despite being well known as one of the nicest, kindest people in elected office, has never quite gotten the attention he deserves from OC’s Political class… but like all people who have actually had to work for their office, he wasn’t just waiting to be anointed. And apparently 11,715 voters in Westminster weren’t willing to wait either.
In Garden Grove, Trustee Bao Nguyen shocked most insiders with his surprise endorsement AND EMBRACING of Vietnamese gays wanting representation in the Tet Festival. The discriminatory politics at work in this whole deal are complez, wonkish, and really quite slimy, but long story short, Bao was approached and moved by the biggest names in Gay OC politics, and not only did he come out in strong opposition to the Tet Festival’s Organizers pocket veto of Gay participation, but he MANAGED TO CONVINCE THE BOARD to withdraw district resources from the Festival unless they changed course. And what reason did the board almost unanimously decide to use as their prevailing logic in the matter? “We must set an example for the children we serve, despite our personal opinions on the matter.” PROGRESS!
NEEDS IMPROVEMENT
In Anaheim, Jordan Brandman doesn’t seem to be having a very good few weeks. First news about his possibly sweetheart contract with the clerk recorder’s office leaked… then, Voice of OC’s story broke about his wikipedia-baseed ‘created writing’… then various Supervisors started requesting tax payer’s hard-earned dollars back, (check out saveanaheim.com for video)… which really is kind of a no brainer. Even Jordan’s harshest critics never would have imagined that impressively calculated Jordan would slip like this; however they, and everyone else who might have voted for Jordan, including myself, are now eagerly awaiting the submission and release of this obviously (?) superfluous report. Jordan’s not a ‘bad guy’, but perhaps this is karma for all the Republican colluding he’s been doing lately? Who knows. On that matter, I will say that he’s never been a liberal… and has never claimed to be. When will we stop projecting that liberal glow onto Anaheim’s lone Dem?
Who wrote this fluff?
“In Anaheim, Jordan Brandman doesn’t seem to be having a very good few weeks. First news about his possibly sweetheart contract with the clerk recorder’s office leaked… then, Voice of OC’s story broke about his wikipedia-baseed (sic) ‘created writing’… then various Supervisors started requesting tax payer’s hard-earned dollars back, (check out saveanaheim.com for video)… which really is kind of a no brainer. Even Jordan’s harshest critics never would have imagined that impressively calculated Jordan would slip like this . . .”
Gotta love that a screw up that would have earned Mr. Brandman a failing grade and possible expulsion from any credible university gets labeled as “needs improvement” and “created writing” by this brown noser. Impressively calculated? I can think of some better descriptors.
If you’re gonna blow smoke up the party’s butt, at least put your name on it so they know who to tip.
I don’t know who wrote it. Wasn’t me. If Vern ever told me, I didn’t retain it.
Your comment serves as a worthy “opposing view.”
Luke Skywalker wrote a few pieces for us a couple years ago, then he was out of town for a while. We picked him up in 2010 when he got thrown off the Liberal OC for criticizing their lawsuit against us. Obviously he’s a north county Democrat… http://www.orangejuiceblog.com/author/luke-skywalker/
Wasn’t MY writing! I would have mentioned the great Diana Carey while on Westminster. I would have said something snarky about Flory and Chaffee in Fullerton. And I wouldn’t have said ANYTHING good about Brandman (though I would have given a nod to his school board replacement Al Jabbar.)
I hope Luke will write about Anaheim districting, which I know is a special interest of his.
Welcome aboard anonymous Jedi Master. Less partisan puff; more political punch, please.
OK, I figured out who it is. Glad to have him on board. (More than that I won’t say.)
*Luke, Ryan and Dr. D.,
Little doubt however that the Republican establishment is having a bit of a tough time
finding viable candidates to run against any supported Democratic opposition. The seems to have turned a bit. Will things change back to the bad old days by the time of the next election? Keep watching the stars….
i don’t know which is worse, the winships talking about newport beach in ways that my lead people to think that we want additional people down there or you guys promoting a couple of cities that, outside disnerland, are primarily populated by tattoo parlors and smoke shops
gotta get the hoa here to put up a second gate
*Willie….what’s up? Are you a pro fire ring guy? Hey, we didn’t even talk about the barriers for storm surf we need or the Walls we need to add around Balboa Island with all the rising tides around here.
It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that ring! Bop shoo-wop!
I have too many pleasant teenage and youthful memories of hanging around the fire rings to want to see them go. I presume that the amount of CO2 added by them is pretty negligible.
they will remove the fire rings when they pry them from my cold dead fingers
I’ve witnessed some strange things being burned in the fire rings… golf balls, cancelled checks, and raiku pottery wrapped in seaweed being fired.
I think I saw Tony Robbins run through one of them once, wrapped in seaweed.
and let us not forget this……http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2013/03/27/us-orange-county-representative-plants-rainbow-flag-at-congress-to-support-equal-marriage/
