Vern does not like the use of plain text in graphics, so using a highlighter I have jazzed up a bit this new poster announcing the state of California’s new paid sick leave policy.
Yeah, yeah — all our job are belong to Texas, and it has everything to do with paid sick leave and nothing to do with the difference in housing prices. Or maybe now sick workers will just be able stay home more easily and not spread Ebola or whatever to coworkers and clients.

About Greg Diamond
Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that.
Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too.
He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
Interesting to see how this plays out.
Are you familiar with the Coase Theorem?
My information about the Coase Theorem is as perfect as you’ll generally have available when trying to apply it. Har-har.
The key word is “employee”. Expect to see a big shift to “independent contractor” hiring.
Then expect to see a big spike in people bringing suits over misclassification of employees. Some from me.
then expect to see me paying large retainers to corporate employment counsel to break you and your system scamming clients. I like you greg, but you cannot take food out of my family’s mouth or money out of their neiman marcus payments
I am sure that YOU’d never misclassify an employee as an independent contractor, Mike — because that would be wrong.
and, as you know, I would never do anything wrong
Good use of the subjunctive there.

Oh yes, it’s so scary! How dare these workers expect paid sick days!
