The Orange Juice can finally report definitively that former Fullerton councilwoman, assemblywoman and current assembly candidate Sharon Quirk-Silva, the most prominent Democratic endorser of Congressional candidate Jordan Brandman, has withdrawn her support from him due to his recent inexcusable and stubborn anti-democratic and anti-Latino actions on the Anaheim Council of late. (Please excuse Monday’s brief accidental premature publishing of this headline, but we were pretty impatient for this development.)
Sharon has been trying to talk sense into Jordan for weeks over his (first) insistence on postponing the vote of Anaheim’s sole Latino district for ANOTHER three years (after beginning his delays back in 2012) and NOW his insistence, on completely bogus excuses, to trash the agreed-upon districting map and going back to the drawing board to look at other maps, delaying the final process till possibly July and threatening to ghettoize Anaheim’s Latinos into two out of six districts for years.
I’m glad we were patient. How would she know there was no talking sense into him? Monday night he begged her not to drop her endorsement, and promised her he would do the right thing last night. As she said to me, “Who knows what he meant by the right thing?” In any case, as you all know by now, last night was just more of the same – Jordan and his two klepto-Republican allies doubled down on their anti-democratic delaying tactics, and the room erupted in a near-riot.
And Sharon washed her hands for good. We hope for more such wise decisions from the assembly candidate and wish her good luck in defeating the lamentable Young Kim.
As for Jordan Brandman, let us quote a resolution ALLEGEDLY passed in his honor by his patron lobbyist Curt Pringle, and passed on to us by “Anaheim Insider”:
- WHEREAS, Councilman Brandman has so far successfully pulled off the difficult balancing act of appearing like a Democrat
who supports district elections while continuously delaying and subverting them;
- WHEREAS, on August 8, 2012, Council candidate Brandman called for the wondrous reform of districting while also insisting that they be delayed for years of study while fighting the reform in court, exactly as he was instructed;
- WHEREAS, on June 11, 2013, when the Usurper Tait was attempting to put districting on the ballot and stop the court fight; and Brandman was, with my permission, fulfilling his promise to support such a move in the council minority; and it looked like Weak Lucille may be wavering and joining Tait and Brandman to make a districting majority; Brandman THOUGHT FAST and CALLED THE QUESTION* (with a little prodding from me by text;)
- AND WHEREAS, on December 8 and 15 of this year, Councilman Brandman has delayed districting even longer, opening up the possibility of locking Anaheim’s Latinos into a council minority for years to come, as well as allowing our side to prepare for the 2016 elections while our opponents rack their heads in confusion; and STILL Councilman Brandman can come off as a Democrat seeking more representation for the Latinos…
- I HEREBY DECREE THAT COUNCILMAN JORDAN BRANDMAN, IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED, IS NOW KEEPER OF MATT CUNNINGHAM’S TEDDY BEAR, UNTIL SUCH TIME AS SOMEONE ELSE EARNS THAT RIGHT.
As Curt allegedly cracked after that resolution was read, “We’ve come a long way from poll guards, haven’t we?”
*Trip down memory lane, June 11, 2013,
when Jordan and Mayor Tait were the “pro-districting minority.”
Start at 4:46 or so:
4:46:00 Tom urges a vote to settle the suit and put districting on the ballot,
and warns accurately of the consequences if that doesn’t happen.
He already has Jordan’s vote but they’re a minority.
At 4:49 Lucille, typically, expresses confusion,
and a problem mainly with the NUMBER OF SEATS recommended – she is in play.
Around 4:50 staff answers her questions and Kris “calls the question.”
At 4:51:33 JORDAN suddenly calls the question too, moving inexplicably to end debate.
He and Kris had both been looking at their phones.
At 4:55 the Mayor’s measure is defeated 3-2, and the fight against districting would continue for …
well, it’s still ongoing.
We’ll never know what might have happened if Lucille’s concerns had been addressed.
Because Jordan “called the question” before that could happen.
Good. It’s the right thing to do.
I hope she plays a much stronger and louder role in the process going forward. This isn’t just a political issue; it’s a moral one.
Damn… I hit publish by accident, I swear.
It seems that SQS was his only major endorsement. Did she issue a press release?
Finally Sharon!! So who is left in endorsing Jordan now?
The better question is why?
Why would anyone support this guy? His actions reflect poorly on the wisdom and judgement on those continuing to stand by him.
I certainly wouldn’t want that drama.
Those who would profit from his advocacy on the dais for their kleptocracy plans.
Ultimately Jordan Brandman will do the Right thing…he will withdraw from the Congressional Race…and then not Run for Reelection to the Anaheim City Council…(you hear it here first)…okay if that prophecy, does not pan out…the man is a complete idiot.
Who’s he a policy aide for? Might be time for a discussion.
last I heard, he was not a policy aide; he was District Director for Ian Calderon.
I know, I know….
Wow, District Director.
A district director running for a congressional district while discussing districts. That’s a lot of districts.
I wonder if folks in Mr. Calderon’s district care that Mr. Brandman wants to delay the enfranchisement of a Latino majority . . . again?
I mean, if that were MY district director, I’d be pretty worried. That kind of rep could have serious blow back in my next election.
Unless of course, I supported circumventing the CRA. Then that’s exactly what I’d expect my director to do.
Don’t forget that the residents of Ian Calderon’s district are losing the services they are paying for in his role as district director taking backseat to his lust for power and his assault on the Latino residents in his on district.
Apparently, there will be a resolution at the next DPOC meeting to demand all other Democrat electeds also remove their endorsement from him for his blatant acts. I would also urge that we DEMAND he refund the County of Orange for the 25 thousand dollar wikipedia scam he pulled off for a plagiarized unfinished report given him by Tom Daly. can I get some support for that?
Should stop beating around the bush and exile him from DPOC.
Enough with the symbolism.
Ryan in terms of procedure, the last action the DPOC took which was to Condemn his actions and lack of action, was done on the basis of his having the opportunity to reverse his decisions and do the right thing. Now that he has refuted that opportunity, he is now subject to censure which is the strongest distancing a body such as the DPOC can do without effecting his constitutional right to freedom of association. In other words, we cannot expel him form the party, however, we can openly and publicly acknowledge that we do not condone his actions nor consider him worthy of flying our flag but cannot prevent him from dong so. Legally at least.
Murray, Brandman and Kring are the new poll guards. A lot more expensive to elect three councilpuppets instead of mall cops, but same result intended.
ZZZiiiiiiiiiing
And now, as Elvis has left the house, Jordan has left the race. He claims (on his mouthpiece Dan’s blog) that he still has too much left to do to, I mean for, Anaheim.
:::Golf Clap:::
His site went blank this afternoon.
What a pathetic weenie.
One little issue that all his opponents destroyed him on and he quits?
Oh yeah, that’s the future of the Democratic Party.
Resign Jordan.
Well, let’s hope not.
Us Democrats should hope not, anyway, but I hope you Republicans and those 3rd partiers and independents will too. I want my party to prevail, but to prevail over sensible and well-intentioned opponents with whom I share a dedication to the common good.
We’re making progress, I believe. We made two paces of progress today. And, for the “Sharon has no guts” crowd, she stepped off a ledge today not knowing whether there was a net — and the old guard may not let her forget it. I disagree with her about a lot of things, but she tends to be as quiet as she thinks she needs to be but also as strong as she thinks she can afford to be. That keeps me from losing hope in her.
Politicians are like plants; they tend to become what they csn be in a good soil and a healthy environment. Sharon and Jordan have both been allowed to blossom this year — and so we can judge them by their fruits. And how!
“Sharon has no guts” crowd, she stepped off a ledge today not knowing whether there was a net — ”
Oh Good Grief. This was teed up for her after the previous meeting. She’s been hectored by all sort of people, I’m sure and finally decided doing nothing was more risky than dumping Brandman, her endorement of whom showed appalling judgment in the first place.
A net? She reached out and grabbed a branch.
I’ll giver her credit for one thing, though. She probably caused Boy Wonder to pull the plug.
As far as judging trees by their produce, Quirk appears to be one of those fruitless ornamentals you can buy that don’t make a mess on your patio.
“…like plants, they thrive on fresh horse manure”.
Oh brother. It wasn’t remarkable that she un-endorsed the most universally maligned black sheep of the party, it would be remarkable if she didn’t. Not exactly a profile in courage.
“Yer not from around these Democratic parts, are ye?”
Read what I had to say about the O.G.s. Yes, it was a big deal.
^^^ Agreed. Better late than never.
If SQS wants to make up for her tardiness, showing up at a council meeting and ripping Jordan a new one for betraying his constituents would be a great place to start.
The door is wide open here for her to make a difference. If she wants to rep these folks in Sacramento, she needs to rep them at Anaheim’s City Hall first. Hope she will . . .
Jordan Brandmann is Katherine Smith’s long lost stepchild.
Pringle sez: Finders keepers.
That’s Jordan’s story, anyway. She disputes it, a la “Billie Jean,” no? 😉
