Here are the downballot races that are still close. I haven’t looked at trends, just the static numbers from Saturday’s OC ROV report. In each race, the name in orange is currently barely in and the one in magenta is currently barely out. (I’m somewhat arbitrarily and selectively drawing the line right around “under 6%.”)
If you know anything interesting about these races and why we should care about them, please speak up!

About Greg Diamond
Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that.
Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too.
He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
*It’s all a blurr……Tim Stokes….must have gotten the call. The Supervisor race is the one that is funny. Who can make the best deal? Guess we will find out by December 6th!
About an hour ago, I opened my mailbox to find an unexpected letter from the DPOC, postmarked Nov. 16. You’ll be hearing more about it; I’m putting this note here as of 3:50 p.m. on Nov. 19 simply to mark the time of its arrival.

Meanwhile, Sal Tinajero isn’t catching up at all, I guess whatever blue wave they might have in Santa Ana doesn’t help him against nominal Dem Pulido. Same 1.8% behind, and a few votes slippage.
ASHLEIGH keeps slowly creeping up on Harry, will it continue long enough? 1861 votes behind Thursday, 1625 Friday, 1544 Saturday, 1406 now, which puts her 1.9% behind.
Chaffee now almost 600 votes above Shaw, which is 0.4%. Umberg … lemme see…
These last two days, they’ve counted 1/4 of the outstanding ballots. Bringing Ashleigh up only 1/10 of what she needs. Doesn’t augur well for Anaheim.
Oh yeah Umberg. Hard to concentrate on him.
He’s up from 49.6 to 49.8% behind, a little less than 1200 votes behind. That sounds hopeful, for Tom.
Apparently Umberg has gone ahead of Nguyen. There are no winners here.

Remember that in the tally on Gracey Van Der Mark that at least one of those votes is possibly fraudulent. That is if Kelly Gates in fact voted outside her district as she publicly claimed that she intended. Who know if city attorney Michael Gates also voted from a non full time residential address?
The Orange County Register just did a piece on some of Gates actions as city attorney but unfortunately they did not dig into this possible crime. Looks like it will be up to the citizens to make sure that this issue is examined and cleared up. Agreed that it should be after Gates’ loser buddy Rahcaca leaves office.
