Must File Today to Stop Dean Grose!

Update: No one came forward. At least we tried. Some actions may still be possible.

Who is Dean Grose? He’s the former Los Alamitos Mayor who reacted to the election of Barack Obama by spreading this racist graphic:

Mayor Dean Grose’s legacy: “I guess there’s no White House Easter Egg hunt this year!”

This became a national story and he was impelled to resign as Los Alamitos’s Mayor.

In his 2015 story, Vern put it differently: “Dean Grose looks like a televangelist had his way with a drugged ferret.

I want to say that no one can recover from something like that, ever — but that’s probably not true. People can recover from being putrid lunkheaded racists — but traveling that road begins with sincere apology and contrition. Dean Grose has shown no capacity to manage either. Like some sort of poorly pompadoured triple-chinned cicada, Grose has managed to try to worm his way back into relevance roughly every seven years since, as you can see in this story of Vern’s about his rejoining the OCGOP Central Committee back in 2015.

Seven years have passed — and now Dean Grose is trying to worm his way back into public office. And what Grose hit upon as his road to political redemption?

It’s the short-term seat as a ROSSMOOR/LOS ALAMITOS AREA SEWER DISTRICT Director — a seat currently in overtime/extension –for which he is currently unopposed!

Aside from the fact that he shouldn’t hold any office, this is a board that deals with regulation what is allowed into sewers and dealing with serious and urgent issues such as rainwater capture. Dean Grose simply does not have the seriousness and competence to deal with matters of that nature. Does he look like some sort of environmentalist?

Sure, he may want relevance, a little power, and whatever compensation comes with the position. It doesn’t matter. He has sacrificed his eligibility for those forever.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Filing for this office ends at 5:00 Wednesday. There’s not much time left.

Here’s a map of the Rossmoor/Los Alamitos Area Sewer District Service Area.

I am trying to find out from the ROV’s office what the exact boundaries are. (This doesn’t look like them to me.)

OK, GOT IT!

One decent person who lives here should file for this office!

Great — what confusingly looked like an island at the bottom right wasn’t one!) If you can find your home on that map — which supposedly includes Rossmoor, Los Alamitos, and … some parts of Seal Beach(?) — you can:

  • file to run for this office
  • get one of your neighbors to run for this office

We need ONE AND ONLY ONE candidate — so if someone beat you to it, that’s how it goes. (Unless they’re named Barke, in which case file anyway.)

If you do not live in that area, you can find someone else who does and get them to do it.

If you know of someone already on the Board — such as David A. Boyer or John Stea — do them a favor: rattle their cages and ask them to come up with a decent candidate for them to spend the next two years with.

About Greg Diamond

Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that. Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too. He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.) His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
