Bao Nguyen isn’t going to take the Broadwater Nepotism Scandal — one that has reportedly endangered the lives of Garden Grove residents by saddling them with an incompetent fire fighter, who happens to be the Mayor’s son — sitting down:

BAO NGUYEN CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION INTO EMPLOYMENT OF
BRUCE BROADWATER’S SON AS A GARDEN GROVE FIREFIGHTER
Garden Grove, California – Garden Grove Unified School District Trustee and Mayoral candidate Bao Nguyen released the following statement today regarding the employment of Mayor Bruce Broadwater’s son with the Garden Grove Fire Department:
“Recent reports regarding the criminal record and dangerously poor performance of Mayor Bruce Broadwater’s son are deeply troubling. Nepotism should have no place at City Hall, especially when public safety is involved. Mayor Broadwater owes the public an explanation and his silence on this issue is especially disappointing.
“I’m asking the City Council to launch a special investigation into how Jeremy Broadwater was hired and what actions his father has taken to protect his employment with the city. I am also asking the City Council to take immediate action to ensure all of Garden Grove’s hiring practices are fair, transparent, and merit-based.”
Numerous news sources, including the Orange County Register, Voice of OC, and CBS 2/KCAL 9 News have reported on the scandal and embattled Mayor Broadwater’s subsequent silence.
Orange Juice Blog presumes that the omission of its own coverage of the scandal from the press release was purely inadvertent. Nevertheless, we feel compelled to leave out the 144-word list of his many accomplishments, except that his welcome presence on the Orange County Fair Board of Directors reminds us that we have something to write about “Execrable Dave” Ellis.
Good for Bao. BTW, WTF is that stuck to Bruce’s head on the picture? Looks like a melted piece of cheese.
You’d have to ask these guys:

All I did in photoshop was to remove the background, resize it, and rotate it a little. If it’s cheese, space aliens, or whatever, it was in the original photo.
The dude looks more Strom Thurmondy by the year.
Wha… Bao is on the Fair Board now? When did that happen? Guess I’ve lost touch with that hotbed…
This just in, the city is going to make an amendment to bring back the 2000 nepotism policy. However, the family members who are active employees will be grandfathered in and remain on the payroll. This stinks. What a lame effort to save face. By the way, Broadwater said he didn’t like amendments last week when the tattoo parlor was at stake. So much for that integrity bit.

What about all the friends? There are dozens upon dozens of them. The Fertal boys’ girlfriends, the nieces and nephews, the Broadwater high school and church (some church, with all those convictions) friends, lots of them … the Facilities Services manager’s daughter, the Parks manager’s (Ron?) boys, two of them, were hired.
And when one asks to see the interview/applications for a particular position they have all been tossed out before the legal time of one year. Poof, gone.
Interesting that the Human Resources director, John D.R.Clarke, suddenly decided to retired when all this starts to be questioned. They always retire when things get messy don’t they? Or are paid off to go away with that 50K allowance the city manager has to use at his discretion with no oversight.
If anyone was hired because of mommy or daddy, or because they are friend with anyone who handles our business and money, they need to go. The State of California Employment department needs to investigate ALL the hirings. Or the OC District Attorney’s office. Who knows whom and why were they hired over other applicants. If a crime was committed over and over, prosecution time, and maybe like Bell, jail time. A class action lawsuit from all the applicants that were discriminated against and denied employment in lieu of family and friends needs to happen. GG city hall has yet again, violated public trust.

LOL That’s what Brice Broadwater does for a living. He is in that position. Did you know that?
If they have really tossed out applications before the statutorily required time elapses, you should seek a lawyer who can file suit over it. Modesty forbids my making any suggestions.
I thought Bruce Broadwater was an insurance guy. Of course, he has made much more being a mayor than in insurance I am quite sure. Let’s start with saving Mountain High Ski Resort by buying his friends Fire Station Inn with our redevelopment monies …
This development seems relevant:
Like. We need youthful spirit in the city of “youth and ambition”. Go Bao! Tri-lingual? Right.On.
Saw Bao getting pics taken with 4 GG Firemen over by The Gem on Wednesday morning. This will be an interesting November on so many levels.
