We were going to put up a photo of the Santa Ana Monarchs 2014 Pee Wee Cheer Team, but then we realized that if anyone objected we'd rather have offended strangers like the angry parents of these sweet young girls from Ecuador.

[Editor’s Note: Apparently, and to its mild surprise, OJB will accept PR News Release submissions for people who ask us nicely and are actually doing something good.  Our terms are: they will appear under our new “FLACKERS” heading – and we get to do anything we want with the headline and the graphic.  Offer void when prohibited by whim or common sense.  Certain conditions – bwaaahahahaha! – may apply.]

Santa Ana City Workers Bring “Cheer” to Local Youth Group

Santa Ana, CA Santa Ana City Workers, as members of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 721, understand the importance of giving back to the community within which they serve. Upon hearing of the successes of a local Pee Wee Cheer Team (part of Santa Ana Pop Warner), and their lack of funding needed to accept an invitation to attend the Nationals Competition in Las Vegas, the Chapter Board wanted to help.

The Pee Wee Cheer Team is composed of 23 girls aged 9-13 years, who are all academically performing at grade point averages of 3.5, have beat adversity and obstacles and earned the opportunity to represent the Monarch Cheer Team and Santa Ana at the National competition in January 2016. The girls have been actively fundraising, but are far from reaching the required funding.

On Thursday, December 17, 2015, the girls’ dream of competing at Nationals will be that much closer to becoming a reality. At its regularly scheduled meeting on the 17th at 5:30 p.m., the SEIU 721 Board will issue a $2,300.00 check to the Pee Wee Cheer team to help cover costs of initiation fee, and help the girls participate in an opportunity that many will perhaps never have the chance to experience. The Santa Ana SEIU 721 office is located at 1651 East 4th Street.

SEIU 721 represents City and County employees across Southern California that is comprised of 90,000 members. For more information regarding SEIU 721, call Director Sergio Verino at (714) 878.1531.

[OK, that wasn’t so bad.  We could get used to this.  No guarantees, though.]

About Greg Diamond

Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that. Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too. He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.) His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
