Announced this morning, Jay Chen, widely considered the best hope for Democrats to flip CA-39, has ended his run for Congress.

Very selfless of OJ fave Jay. Now there are 4 or 5 viable Dems in CA-39 instead of 5 or 6.
I’m working on a commentary. Up before 9.
Took until 9:20. Here’s the link:

As many people wouldn’t click a link to a news story to save their life, here’s the raw text of tJay’s announcement:
All I’ll say here is that this is noble and extraordinary. One fewer car will be in the clustercrash; if all but one or two of them follow Jay off of the road then Dems have a chance.
Sadly, that won’t happen.
Maybe it woulda helped the whole process if he’d-a endorsed one of the survivors.
Endorse a less capable Democrat who is only in the race because they’re more stubborn?
Nope.
A few of them look pretty capable to me.
I think I’m with Thorburn now.
Captain Money Mailer it is.
I expect that he will in time. But frankly, from his perspective, there’s no obvious choice.
C’mon, Ryan — from a Republican perspective, of course you don’t want him to endorse. From a Democratic perspective, I want him to endorse — NOT now, when few are paying attention, but when it would be most likely to consolidate the vote. And that, Vern, would probably be about two weeks before early and absentee voting starts, in a high-profile event with the candidate he chooses. (Maybe a week earlier if that candidate plans to send out a mailer.) Frustrate you as that delay might, the man knows his stuff.
Oh yeah, totally endorse. Treat all those supporters like chattle and rally that vote!
When that fails, schedule a cage match.
Uh, in our party, an endorsement proposing that voters vote for a particular candidate is a suggestion, not a sale. Not sure how it works on your side of the aisle, but your suggestion that you think it involves delivery of bound-up parcels of human voters is worrisome.
No, no what I’m saying Greg is that when Bernie endorsed Hillary, that went over super well for you guys.
Please, Jay, endorse someone.
Hillary didn’t lose because of Bernie’s endorsement. She may have lost because of Bill’s endorsement, but that’s different.
