Can Atheists Be Trusted?

A survey published in the American Sociological Review tells us that atheists are the least trusted group in America – even less trusted than homosexuals. At least we can trust homosexuals with our hair.

University researchers found that Americans rate atheists below Muslims, recent immigrants, gays and lesbians and other minority groups in “sharing their vision of American society.” Atheists are also the minority group most Americans are least willing to allow their children to marry.

Wow! Unsuperstitious people are ranked below Muslims and fags?  No one trusts  bottom-of-the-barrel atheists?

Atheists on Youtube claim that their content is regularly purged by the site with no explanation.  Why would anyone really care at all about a person’s lack of faith? Maybe the atheist movement is being advanced by certain videos like this one.   Did you know you can become an Atheist today? Quickie video on how to become an edgy athiest:
Back to intolerance… Here are some of the survey’s results and conclusions:
Edgell believes a fear of moral decline and resulting social disorder is behind the findings. “Americans believe they share more than rules and procedures with their fellow citizens—they share an understanding of right and wrong,” she said. “Our findings seem to rest on a view of atheists as self-interested individuals who are not concerned with the common good.”
The researchers also found acceptance or rejection of atheists is related not only to personal religiosity, but also to one’s exposure to diversity, education and political orientation—with more educated, East and West Coast Americans more accepting of atheists than their Midwestern counterparts.
Can Atheists be trusted?  If the answer continues to be “no”, maybe the Mormons and Catholics are getting ready to bankroll a measure to imprison irreligionists after their major success at stripping away the rights of gays to marry.  Atheists are some tempting low-hanging fruit for organized religion.  Will atheists be targeted next?
