“Orange County Supervisors have taken a tentative step toward closing down county polling places and doing all balloting by mail – last week, they agreed to ask the county’s legislative delegation to push for a state law allowing all-mail balloting on a county-by-county basis,” according to Martin Wiskol over at the Total Buzz blog.
“Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley told supervisors that all-mail voting, which is now done in Washington and Oregon, would save the county about $200,000 per election cycle.”
This actually sounds like a good idea! It is refreshing to see our Supervisors doing something good for a change.
And folks won’t be able to impersonate us at the polls if we go to balloting by mail instead of voting at the polls.
Too bad they can’t figure out a way for us to vote securely online.
Every election you can sit down with me or your boss and we’ll help you mark you ballot and perhaps even mail it for you, just like in Cuba or N Korea. Who needs a secret ballot? Great Idea!!
Wonder if the Board would support the pending Federal Card Check legislation too? I’ll bet there is a vendor (with lobbyist) of some kind pushing this idea as a way for the vendor to somehow handle it, make money, etc. Who is to pay the postage to mail the ballot back to the Registrar? What vendor gets to print the envelopes? Who is going to take title to OC’s voting equipment and will that be some kind of sweethart deal? Color me suspicious of motivations.
*Better yet….put all the candidates names on
Postcards…..and the one that sends the most
back…must be the winner. Who needs all that
registration, citizen participation or validity?
So inconvenient and expensive! What crayolas
are these people smoking again? Burnt Ember #2?
vote by mail = increase of voting fraud
200,000 saving at ROV and an increase of 2,000,000 at the DA’s office for vote fraud investigations.
Now that is saving, not.
I was at the ROV’s office to watch the closing procedures of early voting, I thought I was going to see the vote tally tape, but the tape was sealed, sight unseen after printing.
But while I waited in the lobby many people came in to vote early. One person came in to drop off one of these paper vote-by-mail ballots. After some words, the person left and did not vote the ballot. I heard the person on the cell phone saying, IF I JUST SIGNED IT MYSELF< THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN. The person tried to vote another’s ballot.
Many of us vote by mail now – absentee ballots.
The outcome could be that more citizens will vote due to convenience.
The result could be more participation from the disenfranchised citizenship.
The Democratic Party stands to be the winners here. Odd that a Republican Board is advocating this.
Odd that this Board with many documented apparently wasteful spending – the Santa Ana tennis court($200,00) is concerned with saving $200,00 on ballots.
Could there be a rat here somewhere.
There would have to be a mechanism to verify votes being counted to avoid selected communities from having their mail lost.
*art lomeli,
Have you ever heard of late counted ballots?
What they can do would curl your hair. Let’s keep the present system in spite of how busy our busy people are!
Winships,
No, what are late counted ballots?
I vote absentee in every election, and I would prefer to have all-mail voting. After working in polling places, I know they are not fraud-free.
I’m more concerned about the folks counting the votes than those trying to slip in extra ones. The Registrar of Voters does not have a clean record.
how do we stop the illegas from voting
“great one”
Do you mean the dangerous speeders on our freeways or the ones picking strawberries?
Larry,
Maybe #12 is referring to the illegal CEO’s robbing the tax payers blind. These people fund political campaigns so that politicians allow them to rob us blind.
And the great one is concerned with a strawberrie picker casting a ballot? Who is doing the greater harm? Just keeping it real.
hey art that includes your democratic party right . the one bill that obama just signed ON HIS WATCH =AIG BONUS , DOSE THAT COUNT = oh no because its a democratic bill . who is harming who now
the great one,
The AIG Bail out and bonus package was constructed by the Bush administration. The Democrats allowed the bonuses to occur.
It is clear both parties are interested in protecting their financial political cash cows.
This is the take home lesson to us tax payers.
If the Art you address above is me, I am a Republican. I believe Art Pedroza is a Independant. Neither of us is a Democrat.
In order to be taken as a serious person, one must put his house in order before criticizing that of his neighbor’s.
if the countygos to all mail in ballot, there will be a lsight bump in votr turnout which would gove way eventuallyto the norm of low urnout by latino voters.
Once it becomes the norm, those who have a history of low turnout will revert to their habit of low turnout. They just wont fill out the ballot.
art l it was you i was speaking to . i do agree with you that you must clean up your house , we need to clean up washington , and especially sacramento . but sooner or later nobama wont be able to blame bush any more . i am also a conservative but i am so mad at the rep .party . they have totally lost their way . they need to stand up to their core principals .
“In order to be taken as a serious person, one must put his house in order before criticizing that of his neighbor’s.”
Or, in the words of the Bible (which may be what the little one understands better):
“And why behold you the mote that is in your brother’s eye, but consider not the beam that is in your own eye?”
#13: You mean the dangerous speeders that wreck expensive Italian cars they don’t own?
Like this guy: http://cbs2.com/watercooler/ferrari.bo.steffan.2.635019.html
I don’t think any of the people picking strawberries has embezzled millions.
Vote by mail has increased in the past elections in the last ten years I’ve worked at the polling places around the OC. And with the exception of last Nov. 08 the voters voting percent has dropped with each election.
So it would follow that all mail voting would mean a substantial drop in voting. The more people who vote by mail = less people voting.
“”Observer Says:
“After working in polling places, I know they are not fraud-free”
“”the great one Says:
“how do we stop the illegas from voting”
Interesting comments, Maybe you two should work the polls all the time to protect us all from “fraud and illegas”
why little joe i would say the same to you move the beam from your own eye so you can see MUCH BETTER ,and see how much damage illegals do to the budget .
the great one,
Again wich illegals do you mean.
CEO’s and politicians have brought down our economy not illegal immigrants.
Government, Private and Academic studies have shown that immigrants including Illegal ones are responsible for the health of our economy.
You need to concentrate on real issues like how our business leaders and government leaders rob the tax payers.
what do you call when you go into the hospital and cant pay for it . if your in the u.s legally i dont mind paying for those people . BUT IF YOUR NOT SUPPOSE TO BE IN THE COUNTRY and use our services who pays for it WE DO , wich brings down the economy. illegals are responsible for the health of our economy . that is something art pedroza , and little joe would say . AMERICANS ARE RESPONSIBLE.. take california look how much $$$$$ we would save if we cut off services to these people that arent suppose to be here =millions , and yes business leaders and goverment leaders are robbing the tax payers . they hopefully will soon find themselves out when the tax revolt comes hopefully next election .
the great one,
You are simply misinformed or purposely giving misinformation.
The studies take into consideration their contributions and situation like those you mention.
Their conclussions are that they benefit our economy. this is not Art Pedroa’s opinion. It is the study results of our Federal Government, Private Research Groups and Academia.
You seem to have a fixation against Illegal Immigrants and have embraced this economic argument of yours as a weapon, even though it is flawed.
Tax revolt has nothing to do with crooked CEO’s and crooked politicians.
mr lomeli you are one of the few bloggers on this page that i do like and have respect for .i dont have the numbers in front of me . but i can find stats that show that my point can hold water . my beef with the illegals and this is NOT ALL OF THEM . is i belive you can come in here if you do it by the law . get in line with everyone else . some of these people on this site dont get that illegals only hurt the work force by lowering wages , and yes i know the employers are also at fault , they drain our hospital cost , plug up our jails.. most of our jails are filled with illegas .. who pays for them . we do . traffic problems , schools overcrowded , and the thing that gets me the most is when they go out and protest and bad mouth this country and only use this country as a market or cash cow and send all of their $$$$$ back home . they dont asimulate here , they dont put this country first . and make no effort to learn english , some i know that are here for 10-15 years and dont speak english .
the great one,
Every issue has pros and cons. The Illegal Immigrant labor is essential to many U.S. industries. Your concerns have a degree of occurance. The point is that our industries employ this labor source consciously. We can then not take responsibility for our actions.
Immigration reform and labor need has to address these symptoms you mention and that we create, by employing this labor source without a plan to deal with the symptoms of labor abuse(low pay). Some of the symptoms you have listed above in your post. The disease creating these symptoms is poverty. Corporate America, private citizens and small businesses that pay low wages creates the disease.
These Immigrants are doing nothing more than filling the demand for the market we create.
My point and the study findings simply indicate that a balance to the positive exists in spite of no foreign Illegal labor plan.
Thank you for your kind comments of me. I respect your opinions too.
thank you mr lomeli i always enjoy reading your post to things .you are never angry , or write insults , its always in a professional matter. we can agree on things and also disagree on things i belive in a civil matter on this . thank you so much , like i said your one of my favorite bloggers .
