Zing! O.C. Register blogger Steven Greenhut noted that Matt “Jerbal” Cunningham has been doing a lot of shilling for Rep. John Campbell over at the Red Klownty blog – ever since Campbell hired Jerbal to help on his campaign. I wonder if Jerbal is being paid by the word to pimp for Campbell on his blog?
Here is an excerpt from Greenhut’s Orange Punch blog post:
Hey, I like Rep. John Campbell as much as the next guy and think that he’s one of the better Republicans in Congress (and certainly think he would be better than his Democratic opponent Beth Krom), but I had to chuckle at this headline on Red County: “John Campbell Compares Statism Vs. Entrepreneurism As Solutions To Auto Woes.” Writer Matt Cunningham goes on to praise an “excellent” op-ed that Campbell wrote in Investor’s Business Daily and reprint the whole thing. It is a good op-ed, but Cunningham — as he discloses at the end of the blog post — is a consultant to the Campbell campaign. On Monday, Cunningham printed another praiseworthy piece about Campbell titled, “John Campbell Speaks Out In Support Of Iranian Resistance To Tyranny” and it includes a video clip of Campbell’s floor speech. And on June 16 Cunningham rebutted another Red County piece that accused Campbell of flip-flopping.
Doesn’t this paid shilling undermine the credibility, what is left of it, of the Red Klownty blog?
In fairness, the blue boys at the Liberal OC blog have been shilling for Campbell’s Democratic opponent, Beth Krom, too. But they are not being paid to do so. They are shilling for her for free.
Just knowing that Jerbal is working for Campbell makes you want to donate to Krom…and from what I hear she is desperate for donations just about now.
Uh, Art, if you’re going to call Cunningham, “Jerbil,” which I think is pretty funny, then dig a little and get a good picture of a gerbil instead of using a guinea pig in the post. It will add a little credibility…
Art, this might be the funniest caption to a picture you’ve EVER done!
Well, Sean Mill shills for Sal Tinajero on this blog, so your hands aren’t exactly clean.
1,
Gerbil pics are hard to find, so any rodent is fine. Poetic license.
Gustavo,
Thanks! I just love picking on Jerbal…
I just can’t win with folks like “anon”. If I write something positive I am a “shill” and if I write something critical “anon” and his ususal suspect buddies run to the Mayor and council crying and demanding I be removed from the Planning Commission.
There is a big difference between being paid to promote a campaign as Matt is and the posts that I write here. I am not paid a dime to write anything here, nor am I asked or encouraged by anyone to write anything here.
I am willing to bet that Matt takes direction from the camapaign as to what is written. After all he is being paid by them.
Big difference, but nice try and taking a swipe at myself and the OJ.
Sean,
I think we’ve established, in this post and others, that one does not need to be paid to be a shill, and also that one does not need to be “asked or encouraged” to be a shill.
A person can be a shill simply by choice.
It’s fun to read Art’s envy of Cunningham, masquerading as attacks. It’s obvious to everyone but Art. It must drive him crazy that Cunningham gets hired to as a consultant, when no one in their right mind would ever hire Art (let’s not forget Art used to be a political consultant, but couldn’t hack it). Cunningham’s little blog blew up into a national network, and Art’s little blog has stayed a little blog.
That’s all you need to know about why Art hates Jubal.
Doesn’t the Jerb help us all see what is wrong with the local Republican party? If you want to get good pub on the party affiliated blog just hire the Jerb right?
Not a republican, no problem. Hire John Lewis and he will tell the Jerb to hide any negative news and play down any good info on your competition.
This crap would be stamped out by those in the party that have integritiy except the party is run by lobbyists.don’t believe me? Who do you think leads the party? Scott Baugh- lobbyist; Curt Pringle- lobbyist; Dick Ackerman- lobbyist; John Lewis-lobbyist; John Fleishman-lobbyist; the list goes on.
When the party wants to restore integrity they will chase off loosers like the Jerb and go back to the party Tom Fuentes ran here in OC. The party used to place the grass roots common man on the pedestal. Now we have lobbyists.
Anon,
Have “we established” that?
According to most, if not all, the definitions I have read it mentions folks being paid or pretending to have no association and prentending to be impartial when in fact they have ties to the person or group they are promoting.
I have never claimed to be impartial in my writings supporting Sal Tinajero. Sal is my friend and I think that is rather common knowledge.
So again, nice try, but the definitions I read don’t describe my writings.
In regards to Sal, I am not paid nor to I claim to be impartial.
And now Jerbal’s church gets another pedophile priest:
http://blogs.ocweekly.com/navelgazing/ex-cathedra/keeper-of-st-norbert-church-pe/index.php
I wonder if he’ll out sex-abuse victims again?
Pedrozabot AKA Thomas Gordfon and his sidekick Phil Becerra, you are just jealous of Arts ability to expose you two posers for who and what you are. Rep/Dem spies, backstabbers, stalkers, women haters, double voters (denver and santa ana). The fact`that jerbal is your buddy speaks volumes for who and what you two are.
Sean,
In a May 26th comment thread, you wrote;
“I am proud to sing the praises of a councilmember that cares about the concerns of all the residents of this city. If that makes me a “shill” then so be it.”
And so my original point holds…Sean Mill shills for Sal Tinajero on this blog.
Sean,
Additionally, has Art proven here that The Liberal OC is “pretending to have no association and prentending (sic) to be impartial when in fact they have ties to the person or group they are promoting” with regard to their writings on Beth Krom?
In other words, does Art’s comment fit your definition?
Anon,
First off, let me say that you really need to get a life. Scouring the OJ looking for “gotcha” quotes is quite pathetic.
With that being said, my comment in that instance was in regards to someones claim, probably yours, that I was a “shill”. Again the definition that is most widely accepted clearly shows that I am not a shill. I am not claiming to be impartial and I am not being paid.
As far as the LibOC goes, the claim to have no ties to the campaign and write as if they are impartial. Dan has given to the Krom campaign and I am not sure if he discloses that in his writings.
I have better things to do than scour the LibOC and reading what they wrote.
Talk to Art regarding those claims not me.
According to Wikipedia;
“”Shill” can also be used pejoratively to describe a critic who appears either all-too-eager to heap glowing praise upon mediocre offerings, or who acts as an apologist for glaring flaws. In this sense, they would be an implicit “shill” for the industry at large…”
Substitute “a person” for “mediocre offerings” or “industry” and we have what you do when you write about Sal.
Anon,
Clearly you are doing your best to try and hijack this thread and divert attention from the subject of the post.
If it makes you feel better saying I am a “shill” for Sal, great!
I have never tried to say I was impartial when offering my support for Sal on this blog. Only you seem to want to dispute that.
I am sure of one thing, you definately fit the description of a “blog troll”.
Sean,
Suggesting that this blog has engaged in the very same activity that it criticizes in this post HARDLY amounts to diverting attention away from the subject of the post.
But I’ll make a note of that the next time you try to suggest that a “pot” is “calling the kettle black”.
Anon,
The subject of the post was Steve Greenhut’s column in which he takes Jubal to task. Perhaps you should “troll” around on his site and pound sand telling him that I am a “shill” for Sal.
Also, I think that the fact that Matt is being paid was a big part of the subject as well.
But hey, you just just keep hiding in the shadows like the troll you are and lob bombs in my direction. That’s pretty much all you ever do on this blog.
anon,
In all fairness, Sean just writes about someone he agrees with. You cant really look at anything he writes and say he is spinning a lackluster thing to anything else.
Pedroza on the other hand… “a critic who appears either all-too-eager to heap glowing praise upon mediocre offerings, or who acts as an apologist for glaring flaws” that describes his shilling pretty well.
Thanks for the definition!
Such phoney drama. Who cares,Campbell is a used car salesman.
Sean #18…I’ve never heard the “blog troll” term before. I love it!! so funny!
Mr. Freedom,
What the heck are you talking about? Time to take your meds!
Jerbal is a PAID shill for Campbell and he is using his blog to promote his client. That is his right I guess, but it certainly undermines whatever credibility he thought he had.
And, as another poster pointed out, at the end of the day Campbell is a car salesman who lucked into a congressional seat. He voted for the original bailout. He is useless.
Whether Krom is any better is beside the point…
Nestled in the middle of this arguement is a nuggent of sanity and truth.
CJ (post22) hit’s the nail on the head. John Campbell is a car salesman. A slick willy of sorts. It should niether surprise or upset anyone that Cunningham is using his Red County platform to push this ill.
This is a guy who defended (rightly or WRONGLY) a priest who for years covered up the rape of children. So people are now surprised that he is supporting Campbell. Simply look at John Campbells lackluster record, his opportunistic approach to office and then ask, why would’nt he have Jubal hack for him?
Just like FOX NEWS, these guys are playing to the base, hoping the spillover is enough.
Meanwhile you’ve got Beth Krom and her clan of clowns on the other side. This is the sad state of elective politics in California. And if Matt Jubal Cunningham thinks that John Campbell is the BEST one to represent the district……well that says more than I ever could about his judgement.
Not Art, Sean or any one else here has any idea what Cunningham’s consulting role with the Campbell campaign is. You all assume it’s blog-related, but not one of you idiots actually knows. Not that it stops you from talking out your rear ends, as per usual.
Art, did you actually bother to ask Jubal? Did you, Sean? Any of you? Of course not.
Art, you don’t have any idea if anything you’re saying is true or not. Not that you care, because you are a born liar. You have got to be the biggest joke in Orange County politics, which you know but don’t have the guts to admit.
And to think you actually had the nerve to ask Santa Ana voters for their votes.
I just noticed Art has a new photoshop portraying Cunningham’s wife as a rodent.
Art, you are a no-class, sleazeball. What a freaking scumbag going after somebody’s spouse. You’re wife and kids must really admire you.
right on pedroza!!
#27,
You do know that Republicans aren’t allowed to marry outside of their species, right?
Mrs. Jerbal is just as much a political consultant as her hubby is. She was once the Exec. Director of the OC GOP. And she was paid to hate last year as the Latino Outreach coordinator for Prop. 8.
Hopefully John Campbell will reward her with a new car for all her red-faced efforts…
