The Not-So Super Majority for Obama

There is a truism in United States Senate parliamentary circles “Its easier to get to 80 than it is to get to 60”.

See, the fact of the matter is, 60 votes means any individual Senators vote means a WHOLE LOT MORE now. Remember “Hardly Able” Maldonado in the California legislature? He held his vote up for a whole host of things that he wanted. And he got them in exchange for his vote. So now, as Stuart Smalley prepares to take his place among the elite 100 and represent the Twin Cities, remember this dear citizens. Two of our illustrious Senators are too ill to attend. They haven’t voted in weeks. BUT! On paper, the Democrats have the 60 votes. So the time for excuses is at an end. Go ahead, move forward with socialized medicine! Go ahead, move forward with doubling the price of everyones utility bill!

Can’t pass the legislation. You’re incompetent. Pass the legislation? You’re gonna hang with it. So go ahead, feel lucky! Dance the hokey-pokey! Meanwhile, there’s a bill being built in the Senate Finance Committee that has bi-partisan answer to health reform written all over it. Its called a co-op. And there’s not a sign of federal oversight in the bill. Just more handouts to the insurance companies. Yep, thats progressive reform for ya.
