In discussing the $787 billion stimulus plan with the Associated Press Vice President Joe Biden stated: “We’re going to go bankrupt as a nation.” “People, when I say that, look at me and say, ‘What are you talking about, Joe? You’re telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?” he said. “The answer is yes.”
Brilliant. Respectfully Mr. Vice President. Your trickle down stimulus may be helping some of your supporters but it is not helping those out of work in CA.
Today’s Sac Bee just reported our state’s unemployment stuck at 11.6 percent. “June (job) losses were worse than May’s.” Sac Bee reporter Dale Kasler’s story continues pointing out that “The new numbers were disappointing to analysts. Hopes were raised in the spring, when the monthly statewide job losses fell from the 100,000-plus range to around 60,000. June, however, marked the fourth straight month without any further improvement. In fact, the June losses were worse than May’s.” “It appeared we were beginning to turn around in April,” said former EDD director Michael Bernick, a senior fellow with the Milken Institute. “Now, rather than turning the corner, we’re going in the wrong direction.” The state unemployment rate for May was originally reported at 11.5 percent. That was revised Friday to 11.6 percent, which means the rate was technically unchanged in June. In any event, the rate is the highest it’s been in the modern era, dating to 1976. Every major economic sector lost jobs in June.”There’s not much progress here,” said Howard Roth, chief economist at the state Department of Finance. “We have to get off this 60,000-a-month plan. We just can’t continue to do that.”
Gilbert comment. So Mr. President. Instead of jetting around the globe you might consider coming to California without your TelePrompTer and holding a true Town Hall meeting with some of the tens of thousands of Californians out of work and share some of your “hope” for “change” regarding employment in this state as our homes go into foreclosure.

Yes we have been going bankrupt for some time. Pat Choate, who was Perot’s running mate the 2nd time was talking about this 15 years ago.
The only way out I my view is to become energy independant and to institute some fair trade provisions. We must get rid of our trade deficits, if we are not able to do that then the federal budget and all will continue in the direction we are currently in.
We are printing money and spending it to cover the ongoing trade deficit. At some point this will result in a real disaster as it almost did at the end of last year.
im laughing you guys though bush was bad , wait till guy gets done. with pelosi and reed and a democrat gongress . the only way to stop it is to win back some seats and take the house and senate back .
Energy independence, great! But where is the Democrat backbone to drill for oil in America, where we have 100 years of reserves, and produce nuclear power as they do – in France of all places?
Missing.
And fair trade provisions. Can we just admit we’re talking tariffs? Buy American! Excellent. The Dems are just dying for a trade war.
And the “Fair Trade” Trade War notions you espouse have long been touted, by people like Pat Buchanan. He may be right on a lot of things but, good luck with that…
“Prime the pump….just prime the pump….yep,
just prime the pump…..OK, one more time….
Prime the pump! So far we are hitting mud! But
who knows…Joe and Jill are very optimist types.
If anyone can hit oil…it will be Joe!
The are many places on lease to the oil companies to drill. They are not drilling them because the price of getting to those reserves is more expensive than the current oil price. Our domectic production and drilling was starting to go up at around $100.00 a barrel. Companies will drill when the profit is there.
Leasing them more places to drill is not likely to increase production at the current price level.
So creating other alternatives that are re-newable and cost less in the long term is to me the best option. And the on going jobs as a result won’t hurt either.
Now, that is a great magazine cover.
#2, you are really an idiot. If not for Bushes calamitous reign of error there never would have been an Obama. You Bush lovers who enabled his binge regime created the Obama backlash.
David.
While I do look in my rear view mirror when driving most of my focus is out the front windshield which is much larger and shows me the road ahead.
What’s your solution to the 60,000 jobs lost each month for the past few months in CA alone?
I would like to know what happens if the Federal Extension of 20 weeks is GONE? Is there another Fed extension since its so difficult to land a job? Assistance is needed badly.
