More candidates now interested in running for Mike Duvall’s Assembly seat

Sharon Quirk-Silva

Can Fullerton Councilwoman Sharon Quirk-Silva give Chris Norby a run for the money?

Don’t look now but the field of candidates to replace disgraced Assemblyman Mike Duvall is getting crowded.

“Other Republicans considering getting into the race include Placentia City Councilman Scott Nelson, Anaheim City Councilman Harry Sidhu, and California’s committeewoman on the Republican National Committee, Linda Ackerman. Ackerman’s husband represented the district in the Assembly before being elected to the Senate and becoming Senate GOP leader,” according to the O.C. Register.

I am also hearing that Fullerton Councilwoman Sharon Quirk-Silva is considering running for the seat.

I still think that termed out Supervisor Chris Norby can win this seat, but his past may come back to haunt him.  Even a Democrat such as Quirk-Silva could use his troubles to vault to the Assembly.

Quirk-Silva, by the way, is no liberal.  She is very reasonable and often sides with Fullerton Councilman Shawn Nelson, a conservative, against her fellow Democrat on the Fullerton City Council, Pam Keller, on redevelopment issues.

Linda Ackerman might run, but only because she and her husband, former State Senator Dick Ackerman, really hate Norby.  She is however a master fundraiser in her own right.

If Norby’s past becomes an issue, this race just might belong to the ladies…
