Adios Steven Greenhut and buena suerte!

Steven Greenhut says adios

Who will pal around with R.C. Hoiles’ ghost now that Steven Greenhut is leaving?

One of my pajaritos reports that Orange County Register editorial writer Steven Greenhut has accepted a job in Sacramento.  I am not sure about the job itself but I think he will be writing editorials for a website, possibly with a national scope.  I am not sure if he will be involved with a print publication but I am sure he will be revealing all of this soon.

Apparently Greenhut’s columns will still appear in the O.C. Register on Sundays.  I believe he will be with them yet for about a month.

I wish Greenhut the very best on his new endeavors!  He has been a good friend and a great resource here in Orange County for so long.  It will be weird not having him around.

Who will now take the lead at the Register’s editorial department?  Greenhut’s shoes will be very hard to fill…

Readers – what are YOUR favorite Greenhut columns over the years?

If I was a betting man I would bet that the Register will be sold within a year, possibly to the Tribune Company.  And it will not be a Libertarian paper for long, IMHO.  That is too bad, but we will always have our memories of the great paper the Register USED to be…

UPDATE: Scott Moxley has confirmed this story over at the OC Weekly.  Here are a few excerpts from his post:

Greenhut told me tonight that he is opening a news bureau and investigative journalism program in the state capital for the Pacific Research Institute, the free-market, individual liberty organization that is based in San Francisco.

“My column will still run fairly regularly in the Register, but with a Sacto focus,” said Greenhut. “I’m leaving on great terms. It’s just time for a new challenge and state government desperately needs some additional attention.”
