Don Wagner in action, on the South Orange County Community College District
Don Wagner is launching his campaign for the 70th Assembly District tonight, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm, at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, located at 1221 West Coat Highway, “On the patio at Duke’s Place.”
“First elected in 1998 to the South Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees, Don currently serves as the Board president. He has been elected to three consecutive terms and developed a reputation as a straight-shooter with a commitment to fiscal responsibility. Under Don’s leadership, his district has not raised taxes by floating bonds, paid off all of its debts, and balanced every budget. This is the type of conservative, fiscally responsible leadership Sacramento needs.,” according to Wagner’s website.
Former OC GOP Chairman Tom Fuentes will serve as Wagner’s Master of Ceremonies, a role Fuentes is very good at. The other hosts include a Who’s Who of conservative O.C. Republicans, including Mark Bucher, Mike McGill, Matt Harper, Phil Yarbrough, Ken Williams and Jim Righeimer. Not my kind of crowd, but these are the folks that run the OC GOP.
The event is free and includes hosted cigars, a no-host bar, and music.
Others who are running for this seat, which is currently held by Chuck DeVore, include former military man Shawn Black, and Tustin Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Amante.
None of these guys are remotely moderate. Amante is very involved in the California League of Cities. Wagner and Black appear to be more into social issues and all of these guys are not too friendly towards immigrants, which is pretty much what I have come to expect from O.C. Republicans.
Are you a moderate? If so, your only choice for the 70th is attorney Melissa Fox
Luckily the Democrats are also running a candidate, by the name of Melissa Fox. She is an attorney who lives in Lake Forest. If you are at all moderate, she is your only choice…
