“Mexican officials plan to kick off a year’s worth of bicentennial events, commemorating their independence with a float at the 2010 Tournament of Roses Parade,” according to the O.C. Register.
Predictably, the Mexican haters are falling all over themselves in their rush to malign anything Mexican.
Barbara Coe, who heads up the Mexican-hating organization called the California Coalition for Immigration Reform (CCIR) told the Register, “I’m not going to go this year. I can tell you that. “There are others who are not really happy about it either. I’ve had a few e-mails and some calls.”
“The float, which features an Aztec calendar and pyramid, marks the first time in more than 40 years that the Mexican government has participated in the parade. The float will be decorated by Mexican immigrants and their families and will kick off a year of festivities for the country’s 200th birthday. The last time the Mexican government presented a float in the parade was in 1968, when the country hosted the Olympics,” according to the L.A. Times.

Mexico’s consul general in Los Angeles, Juan Marcos Gutierrez-Gonzalez told the L.A. Times, “For Mexicans living in Los Angeles, there is going to be a matter of pride,” he said. “It’s announcing to the world: ‘It’s our 200th birthday.'”
The float showcases symbols of Mexico’s culture and history, including a relief sculpture of an eagle with a snake in its mouth and floral portraits of founding fathers Miguel Hidalgo and Francisco Madero. Across the middle of the float, about 50,000 roses will spell out “Mexico — 2010” under red, white and green pennants.
The designer, Raul R. Rodriguez, was raised in Boyle Heights and is of Mexican descent. Rodriguez said he worked with consular officials to create a float that would highlight pivotal events in the country’s history as well as capture the colors, smells and sounds of the nation.
The float is designed and built by Fiesta Parade Floats, located in Pasadena. They are the leading award winning float-builder in the Tournament of Roses Parade with an impressive 67 percent winning rate averaged over the past twenty years, the highest award rate in the Rose Parade industry.
Congratulations to the people of Mexico. I look forward to watching the Rose Parade on TV.
Dumb asses (the haters..)
The Mexico must stop promoting the NATIONAL SOCIALISM in order to be accepted as a member of the civilized world.
100 years from the start of the Mexican Revolution.
Now that is worth celebrating. Mexico is stll a Third World country – with a huge disparity between rich and poor.
Viva Mexico! This float will be the winner.
Mexico is The Promised Land– so rich in natural resources, culture, heritage, history, so beautiful…
Fiala and the haters–you’re filled with envy and you can’t disguise it.
but we are forgiving, loving, and compassionate people
hey, if humanity crucified our Lord- then what can we
Mexicans expect from haters like you.
In response to racism, bigotry, and xenophobia — all we can say is —in the words of our Lord==, “Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they are doing…”
To my fellow Mexicans, I say to you–
Do not react to such attacks, haters are the architects of their own karma- instead, kill them with love.
y que viva Mexico!
Happy New Year to all 2010–
Latinos, con la frente muy en alto: luz, amor, paz, salud, unidad–bendiciones a todos!

#7,
Not many to be had. But here is a link to about a dozen pictures over at the OC Register: http://www.ocregister.com/news/float-226168-parade-mexico.html#article-photos.
Well, I saw the parade and the float. Beautiful float, and the people accompanying it were beautiful and handsome and happy. A great image – but when I saw the word “Libertad” on the float, all I could think of was the corruption and violence that Mexico has become known for rather than the perceived benefits of liberty. If one knows what is going on in Mexico, the happy and energetic image reflected by the float entry just does not compute.
Raul Rodriguez is brilliant, sweet, kind and caring. Maribel Salazar…so so singer and not such a pleasant person but maybe she was having a bad day. The fashion designer guy…insulted me and a friend at a party when we complimented him…so loser and not sure why he is even on the float. The float is beautiful, bright and cheery. I have to agree with some of the comments above. The country of Mexico is a horrible mess. Run by corrupt government officials and drug cartel. Not a year goes by where a city official doesn’t run off with a city of choice’s money. People are dying from murders and beheadings. Drugs infiltrate this country and criminals/terroists who happen to be illegals from our southern “neighbors” are overlooked and ignored. Illegals protest in the street with signs saying they are not criminals but perhaps they need to look up the word illegal alien. I am a united states citizen natural born child of LEGAL immigrants. Be fair with the rest of the world, pay your taxes and come in the legal way. Take charge of your homeland and get those murders and crooks out of there. You can do amazing things when large numbers of caring citizens stand behind you rather than run off to another country. As for the racist comments? Racists and xenophobics are focused on the Muslims now so you can’t ride that train anymore. Mexico is not the beauty it used to be but they can change that. I look forward to seeing Mexico truly regain its pride because they are a damn shame now.
I am an American Retiree living in Central Mexico. I could not find a better place to live the rest of my life, Within the first week of living in my neighborhood a got to know all my neighbors in the block and across the street, plain simple, warm people who work, take care of their families and party a lot. I lived in the same block in Las Vegas for 12 years and I only got to meet 4 families. It may be a bad managed economy but the country is beautiful and people friendly. The country may lack some of the comforts of USA but I have adapted very well. I will enjoy the whole year of bicentenial events.
#9 over but not out
yes our Mexico is going through its civil unrest, terrorism, and drug cartel inflicted terror and violent bloodshed.
they have their own issues with illegal immigration from central america, and other groups-
speaking about crime in Mexico:
FYI – El Monte School Board Member and Vice Principal of El Monte H.S

#11 I totally agree!
I too have good time every time I visit my extended family in the Mexico.
The problem is that Mexican National Socialists like Pedroza and that loon from the OC Weekly… what is his name?… equates illegal behavior of some Mexicans with a Mexican national pride which then pisses off lot of people and you get backlash.
No one hates Mexicans more than Mexicans themselves.
Do not react to such attacks, haters are the architects of their own karma- instead, kill them with love.
You are completely clueless of your own people.
Santa Ana is full of Mexican gangs that are killing Mexicans. Mexico is so dangerous that a US citizen was kidnapped with 5 other men and shot in the head. Mexicans are killing each other, people like myself do not want such violent people in the country. It is not a matter of hate, it is the fact that i left a violent place because i want my family to feel safe.
The float was ridiculous for one reason only, Mexico is not a place to celebate, it is a violent hole that people leave. The float might have been more appropritate had it been full of gang members and drug cartels!
Wiseup and wakeup and maybe the Mexicans will pull their heads out of their ass and realise that Mexico is only going to get better if the Mexicans start fighting back to save their country from cartels and corrupt government officals.
I think it is laughable that you even mention the poor man who was murdered in Mexico and you have the gall to say, “VIVA MEXICO”.
I hope JUST IN TIME, that 2010 you might get a clue!
Mexico is The Promised Land– so rich in natural resources, culture, heritage, history, so beautiful…
By the way if it is the promised land- why are you not there and why do so many leave?
Again Wiseup!
i just heard an Aztlan proponent on talk radio last night talking about retaking lost american territory by force and then spouting his master plan of strong young mexicans infiltrating the euro centric game of american hockey!
Maybe good old fashioned american values will finally heal all the damage caused to mexicans by the arrogant EURO spanish who plundered mexico completly. I will be watching for that new LA hockey team called the bandido’s hit the ice soon. Good float, fake reality.
