ACORN is so innocent that the California branch has changed its name to the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment. The ACORN 8 were expelled from the prostitution peddling organization when they tried to expose a $1 million embezzlement scheme being covered up by founder Wade Rathke. Complicit in the eight year cover up? Why, the new head of the California division of ACORN, Amy Schur. Schur has been in charge of the group’s national campaigns and is likely to testify later this year when ACORN is going on trial for illegally paying canvassers in Nevada, and are suspected of the same action in a dozen other states.
ACCE’s office address is shown in the registration as 3655 S. Grand Ave., Suite 250, Los Angeles 90007. That address just so happens to be the address of California ACORN’s headquarters too.
ACORN plays a game of corporate musical chairs when it gets into trouble. When an ACORN affiliate does something admirable, ACORN emphasizes the ties it has to that affiliate. When an affiliate does something infamous, ACORN plays dumb and its byzantine organizational structure allows it to claim plausible deniability.
Such chicanery is standard operating procedure at ACORN, according to ACORN lawyer Elizabeth Kingsley. In an internal legal memo in 2008 Kingsley described the hoops that ACORN jumps through to create the façade that its affiliates are independent of each other.
Key ACORN affiliates argue they are not “‘affiliated,’ ‘related,’ or ‘controlled’ by or with each other, for various legal purposes, while allowing actual control to be exercised in a highly coordinated manner,” she wrote. ACORN suffers from “an organizational culture that resembles a family business more than an accountable organization.”
Get that? A former lawyer for ACORN compares their organization to Tony Soprano. Friggin BEEEUUUUTIFUUUULLLLL!

I got curious and clicked on that Boycott Acorn link. I’m assuming nobody else has bothered to. It’s kind of interesting, but the website has a problem – it only stays up for like ten seconds before it goes off to various random commercial sites.
But it’s got a statement from this “ACORN 8” which includes “We are not trying to destroy ACORN. We ARE ACORN. We love ACORN. We are trying to reform it.” Etc. etc. Not exactly how Crowley presents it. But it’s hard to read the whole thing when it immediately directs your browser elsewhere.
ACORN is a joke, James O’Keefe is a joke as well. If James O’Keefe didnt pal aroud with racists he would be a hero by now.

I did bring up that incident and link to that article in my post of yesterday… but only to show a broader pattern of racism in the scumbag’s short career. I’m not one to throw around epithets like racism based on just one questionable incident from a few years ago, it takes a discernible pattern. Here’s my two relevant paragraphs which you probably missed if you skim my work with the same pained reluctance as I skim yours:
Apart from the obvious fact that ACORN has always been a Republican target simply because they register mostly Democrats, it is plain anti-black RACISM that drove both the “sting” and the unquestioning credulity of everyone from FOX News to Juicers Quinn, Crowley, and the Grate One. It just makes perfect sense to these people and goes without saying, that anyone black and working in the inner city with poor people must be involved in prostitution and sundry illegal activities.
And sure enough, young, privileged James O’Keefe III has squeezed in quite a bit of documented racism into his short and obnoxious life. From harassing Planned Parenthood with offers of money earmarked only for abortions of black babies, to holding “affirmative action bake sales” on campus offering low prices to minorities and inflated prices to whites, to being thrown out of the Rutgers dorm for using the n-word (a charge he denies), to handing out literature at a white supremacist “symposium” in 2006… there’s no getting around the fact that his ACORN caper was the final grand chapter in a career of racist pranks. (And this liberal blogger does not throw around the word “racist” easily.)
