Jeffrey Lalloway Calls For City Of Irvine To Help Fund Local Schools
Irvine…In a speech before the Irvine Unified School District, City Finance Commission Vice Chairman Jeffrey Lalloway called on the Irvine City Council to provide a “one time grant of $5 Million to the district to prevent the increase in class size for grades 1-3 and 9th grade and fund the kindergarten through 6th grade art program.”
Lalloway said “I know the Irvine taxpayers and residents would support such a contribution. For far too long, the City Council and the Irvine Unified School Board have had a contentious relationship. The city council and the school board must work together in a new partnership.”
Lalloway continued “As the Vice Chairman of the Finance Commission, I have witnessed numerous examples of wasteful city spending. For example, this year, the city has budgeted over $1.8 million for the controversial iShuttle program—a program that benefits around 75 riders per week, mostly non-residents of Irvine. That money would be better spent on our kids.”
“In addition, at the Great Park, when the final round of construction is completed, the city will have spent over $200 million for 3 soccer fields and an orange balloon. Again, why not spend some of that money on our classrooms and our children?”
Lalloway plans to agendize the grant at the next Irvine Finance Committee meeting.
Lalloway, 48 and his wife Laura are the proud parents of a six year old in kindergarten and a preschool two year old. He is also a candidate for Irvine City Council in November 2010.

Finally, a great idea by someone from Irvine. Look at the article about Agran and his sleazy campaign fundraising. We need new leadership for Irvine and Jeff is the one.
Wonder what Jeff’s views are on some of the social issues? It is hard to find much.
