April 9, 2010, Santa Ana, CA – The Orange County Young Democrats yesterday voted to endorse a slate of Democratic candidates who will appear on the June 8th Primary ballot. At their monthly general meeting in Santa Ana more than 50 young democrats from around Orange County gathered to listen to local candidates and elected officials discuss their plans for the future of California. Hmmm… someone missed the punchline here. Should have added Alvin, Simon and the Jerbal to the list… given the theme of so many other posts on this blog… 😉
I am shocked to see that Fraudio “5150” Gallegos wasn’t able to get Janice Hahn the endorsement. I that “5150” was a major player and very influential. I gues not.
I hope he didn’t scream out and disrupt the proceedings like he did at the NUFF forum.
Really!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this the best you can come up with? Lets not forget all this time Loretta has been sooooooo, soooooooo…disconnected with her community in general.
Now she is announcing that the OC Young Democrats will support her? Don’t be fooled, this is just a cover up!!! Is she really a true supported? “ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS LORETTA!!” It is sad to see that YOU will not even “Support the youuth from the Dream Act” What is up with that?????? HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT THE OC Young Democrats WILL SUPPORT YOU? CITIZENS, DON’T FALL FOR HER ANNOUNCEMENT,THIS IS A NEGATIVE MESSAGE!!
I can’t believe OC Young Democrats endorsed Tom (Horny Old Man) Daly.
He is such an IDIOT and a waste of taxpayers money.
Let get rid of this guys once and for all!!!!
The OCYD Communications Director has a 562 (Long Beach) area code number. Doesn’t he live in Orange County either?
What gives?
The Executive Director of the DPOC, Geri Schipske, is from Long Beach too.
Are Chrissy Prevatt and the LBC Mafia running the local party now?
Aren’t there any local OC Dems capable of doing the job?
Hey Sean, I live in La Habra and my area code is 562 too! I think it covers buena park and cypress too, but I’m not sure.
Do we know what US Rep Sanchez position is on the following:
1) Comprehensive Immigration Reform (“Amnesty”): Yes or No?
2) Public Option in the Health Care Reform Bill: Yes or No?
3) Pro-Choice: Yes or No?
4) DREAM ACT (includes education, and the duty of serving in the US military): Yes or No?
5) Gays serving openly in the military? Yes or No?

7) Did she vote for TARP (bailout-out of financial institutions) – YES or No?
8) Is she for “Clawback” of Bonuses paid to Executives of Bailed out firms? Yes or No?
What has she done with respect to this?
9) As a “Blue Dog” Democrat Has she voted for reform of:
9A) FUTURE Social Security Benefits? Yes or No?
9B) FUTURE Medicare Part A Benefits? Yes or No?
9C) FUTURE Medicare Part B Benefits? Yes or No?

10) And is this all in line with the OCYD? Yes or No?

Perhaps Jose Vargas can shed some light on this For The Average Jose or For the Average Josefina!
EMAIL Response by JOSE VARGAS on April 13 to QUESTION #7 above:
“Thank you for contacting us with your questions. Unfortunately, these are questions that need to be addressed by an official spokesperson of Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.
Orange County Young Democrats [ENDORSED CONGRESSWOMAN SANCHEZ FOR HER DECADE LONG SERVICE AND DEDICATION AS THE ONLY DEMOCRAT REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS FROM ORANGE COUNTY].
Our membership took the vote last week and the majority of votes went for Loretta Sanchez. Our endorsement process requires a candidate to receive more than 50% of votes by our membership in order to be officially endorsed by OCYD.
Thank you.

my ANSWER to the REPLY:
Any organization can decide how to endorse or who to endorse. HOWEVER,
I) LONGETIVITY, INCUMBENCY or Party Label should not be the reason for endorsement or reelection.
a) US REP Sanchez’ platform, VOTING RECORD or political stances should be CRITICALLY evaluated, by all organizations (prior to endorsing) and by all voters (prior to voting).
b) US Reps do not serve for peanuts, nor many times sacrifice their income. US Reps get paid about $174,000 per year, and in the case of US Rep Sanchez in 8 about years she will be eligible for receiving a pension based on the average of the salary for the last 3 years and if she is at least 50 old (members are entitled to a pension at age 50 if they served for 20 years, or after age 62)…she will receive this for life and it could not be greater than 80% which translates to at least about $140,000 per year for life.
II) There are other individuals DEMOCRATS and INDEPENDENTS that are just as qualified that would love to represent Orange County and should seriously be considered.
According to Jose Vargas’ reply, it appears that this was “rubber-stamp” endorsement.
It is unfortunate that the Young Democrats have decided to endorse without understanding fully the past Voting Record, nor scrutinizing it, almost as if endorsing the idea of ENTITLEMENT to this endorsement…sets a bad precedent for this young democrats of UNCRITICALLY supporting a candidate merely because of INCUMBENCY or PARTY LABEL.
III) The OCYD were doing the endorsement of US Rep Sanchez, and NOT the other way around. So the one that should have been prepared to answer the questions asked at #7 above should have been OCYD and not US Rep Sanchez.
Perhaps Jose V. or a delegate of OCYD can follow-up with US Rep Sanchez and find out her past voting record and what her platform will be, and provide ANSWERS here for Questions at #7.
ForAverageJose or Josefina!
