The original photo got my attention when posted on another article. Some people put messages on their cars, others put messages on their children — whatever is handy.
Re: the original photo, I would like to ask the adults in the picture if they are still going to support the teachers if they go on strike. Will parents join the picketing and cat-calling at the subs who are called in to teach?
Great one.
A trip down memory lane.
On March 19th of last year I covered President Obama when he appeared for a Town Hall at the LAUSD Miguel Contreras Learning Complex in the heart of downtown LA.
In the crowd out front were members of CHIRLA, including children. In my Juice post I wrote: “As we exited the school we heard children chanting “save our schools, no more cuts.”
“Sorry that I didn’t call you to offer a ride to the Mission Viejo event where you would have seen patriots from 8 to 88 years old on the crowded corners.”
So were those 8 year old “baggers” patriots or pawns?
anonster.
Good morning. Sometimes we cannot please our readers. First I am challenged by our city manager for alleged incomplete coverage only to be chastised by you for reporting what I saw with my own eyes.
Actually Brother Larry, that’s not quite true. We are reacting to your editorializing on the picture you saw with your own eyes (after I posted it.)
You wrote, with unmistakeable outrage, “Do our children have any idea of what they are protesting and why? … Future teacher basic training … Nice! We allow our children to become pawns in the game of politics.” Because some kids were out protesting with their teachers or parents.
So some of us responded with numerous examples of the same thing happening with causes you espouse – tea parties, pro-life, etc. Just to show that your outrage was silly and selective.
Nobody’s “chastising” you for “reporting what you saw with your own eyes.” Let’s strive to keep this blog a disingenuous-free zone, Juice Brother.
anonster was only pointing out your inconsistency. Implicate in your “8 to 80” comment, because of the word “patriot” is that it was a good thing to see 8 year olds out protesting taxes everyone here knows they understand. He wasn’t picking on you for reporting what you saw. You need to take responsibility for the effect your word choice has. Whether you meant it or not if you want to be any kind of writer.
Kids are often featured here in one sense or another I’ve noticed.
On the other hand I’m impressed the little girl in the tri-corner hat has read Ayn Rand!
And so, wise Juice Brother, wrap things up for us here.
You have a very principled stand against children (under what age?) being included in protests. And I’m sure you will clarify that you’re against that no matter what the cause is – whether it be against abortion, against Obama, against taxes, or against teacher pay cuts. I’m sure you’ll do that any minute now!
Or do you need to wait for all the paint to dry on the floor before you can get out of that corner?
I have never met Michelle, but I have read many of her posts. Thank you, Michelle, for your leadership and courage to stand up and speak up. I have agreed with EVERYTHING you say, and I wish you lived in my community because you would make it a better place.
Give me a couple of years to bring up my wee tikes – I promise you this – I am going to get involved with stopping the corruption that is going on in Orange County and hopefully this state…

Thanks. I’ll remember that the next time I see kids hauled down to some anti-abortion protest, carrying picketed signs of aborted fetuses.

Dummy. The point was to show my right-wing Juice Brother Larry that people he agrees with use kids in protests all the time too.
That’s why it’s all anti-abortion, save-Terri-Schiavo, and tea-partiers.
Of course I could find kids protesting for causes I support, but what would the point be?
You always forget what the point is.
Brother Vern.
That does not mean that I condone that action does it???????????????
Larry,

In the last two years looking into why OUSD is so bad i have come across a lot of public teachers and admin worker’s.
This lady is typical of what i have seen and heard. I can understand why a lot of public school teachers send their children to private schools..
This lady is a pathetic example of who is teaching in the United States today – She is not alone.

Or in my case a woman!
🙂
