Dumitru is ready to walk precincts against Orange Mayor Carolyn Cavecche
Our friends at the Greater Orange News Service (GONS) are reporting that Orange Councilman Jon Dumitru is going to challenge popular Orange Mayor Carolyn Cavecche this November:
In the Orange City Mayor’s race, two term Orange City Councilman Jon Dumitru pulled papers to challenge popular Orange City Mayor Carolyn Cavecche. Mayor Cavecche also pulled papers to keep her seat. When the 72 Assembly seat was vacated by the self- destruction of Mike Duval, Dumitru briefly made a bid for the seat before pulling out of the race to endorse Linda Ackerman (the seat was eventually won by Chris Norby). Dumitru’s current Council term expires in 2012. Dumitru has established a website for his run and confirmed his run on his Twitter page.
Dumitru currently answers the phones at the O.C. Fire Authority.
The GONS is also reporting that “Two Orange Council seats are also up for election in November. Those seats are the ones currently held by Council persons Mark Murphy and Denis Bilodeau. As of July 12th, Council person Bilodeau has pulled papers for re-election as have challengers Orange Planning Commissioners Fred Whitiker and Michael Merino.”
Bilodeau is now the Chief of Staff for new O.C. Supervisor Shawn Nelson. Whitaker is a member of the OC GOP Central Committee.
Michael Merino currently serves on the City of Orange Planning Commission to which he was initially appointed in 2007. He and his wife, Gayle, have had their family-owned business and home in the city for more than 14 years, according to his campaign website.
This November will also see the return of Steve Rocco, who recently lost to John Williams in a strange run for O.C. Public Administrator. Rocco also ran for the Santa Ana City Council in 2008.
This time Rocco is running for Area 7, which is currently held by Rick Ledesma.
You may recall that the last time Rocco ran for the Orange School Board, none other than Red County editor Matt Cunningham admitted to voting for him. At the time Rocco was running against a Latino who Cunningham refused to support. Cunningham’s kids all have gone to private, not public, schools.
Is Dumitru on crack? I never understand the logic behind running in races when you know you are going to lose. What an idiot.

I cannot imagine what Dumitru is thinking. You would think he would position himself to run for Bill Campbell’s seat, on the OC Board of Supes. But perhaps Dumitru knows that seat has already been reserved by John Lewis for Tom Daly…
Come on, Dumbitru is brilliant – naming Orange a Rule of Law city was totally his baby!
He sat there giving me and Duane a Dumbitru-in-the-headlights stare last month as we designated his town a Ruled-by-Clowns City.
He should run…he is extremely popular in Orange! Cavecche wants to run for the Boards of Supervisors and is just wrong…she has no desires to actually do a job other then kiss up to Pringle and Lewis.
I know Jon, he has no interest in BOS.
First, Daly lives in the part of Anaheim that is in the 4th, so he will not run for the Supervisor.
Second, John Lewis makes WAY more money lobbying and part-time consulting the BOS rather than being on the BOS, so he wouldn’t run either. He’s old, he needs to make money not run for office and ruin a good thing.
Third, Jon REALLY wants to parley Orange council to a ASM or SD seat so he can be close to his wife up in Sac.
and….watch for Amante and Choi to get in that race and really give Carolyn a run…

Yes, Lewis will not run. Why should he? Daly will be his stooge.
I agree that Amante might run – but if Choi runs he will foil things for Amante again.
Daly would love to see all these Reeps run as it would leave him as the only Dem in the race – and Lewis will buy up all the GOP slate mail and fool the GOP voters into thinking Daly is a Dem, while at the pandering to the Dems.
I understand your logic–sounds about right. Once I re-read your first post I see you were saying “Lewis would hold the seat for Daly…” My error.
Actually all of the candidates other than Choi are good with me. I just don’t want John Lewis to have another puppet (Norby) on the BOS, so Daly would be my last choice for sure….and I think the Republicans will carry the seat anyways.
What other races did he actually file for? I only recall him being the ballot for reelection in 2008. I know he looked at running for Duvall seat, it would stupid not to at least look at other seats….but if you can’t win don’t do it.
Dumitru was considering a run to take Miller out of the 71st, then announced for the 72nd, he was going to have to move for that one. Then announced for the County Clerk-Recorder, then rumors had him thinking about a run for the OCGOP Central Committee this last election. That’s what, 4 in less then a year.
Orange needs Jon’s leadership now more than ever. Did you ever wonder why Old Orange is such a nice place to shop/eat and Downtown Santa Ana is such a dump? I wonder why?

Who is bankrolling Rocco? That’s the question of the day. I was just amazed at out many wasted votes were spent on him for the Public Administrator position. What a joke! I think the people of Orange are certainly on to him – one would think!
I thought Rocco was going to run for Mayor of Santa Ana, with the two latino’s doing a hatchet job on each other that would clear the way for another to slip right in there.

Oh he already played that card. He appears to want to get back on the OUSD in order to get revenge on their board for gerrymandering him out of his previous seat on that board.
He appears to be very vendettaistic. By looking at records in the on-line section of the Orange County Superior Court – probate court, he lost a bid to be court-appointed guardian of his parents to John Williams, hence this is why he probably ran for that position as well. Dumbass!
You will also find under civil cases his 30 something page appeal of his ketchup stealing verdict from Chapman University – guilty! I paid the $8.79 for copies just for amusement and its pretty funny.
The fact that Rocco got any votes at all (and that John Williams was re-elected) shows that the public is totally, abysmally, clueless about these low tier elections.
Interesting. Carolyn wanted Dimitru on the League of Cities board Sooooo badly, she traded her vote. Now, he is just another wanna be. This will be a fun one to watch. Didn’t Jon marry Buck John’s daughter? Don’t rule him out. He has some pull in the OC-GOP.
