UFCW endorses Prop. 19

Huge news from our friends at the Prop. 19 campaign.  “Proponents of the marijuana legalization initiative on the November ballot won the endorsement Wednesday of the council that oversees the political work of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union in California, as well as one of the union’s major locals, giving proponents a significant boost to their campaign,” according to the L.A. Times.

They also had hoped to win the endorsement of the California Labor Federation, which met this week in San Diego, but decided not to press for a vote and settled instead on persuading the powerful organization to remain neutral — which it did.

And Prop. 19, which will legalize, regulate and tax marijuana, is currently winning, 50 percent yes to 40 percent no, according to a new SurveyUSA poll of likely voters sponsored by CBS 5 KPIX-TV.

All of this is great news for Prop. 19.  I wonder if Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown is beginning to regret his decision to oppose this measure?
