Rancho Santiago Community College District Trustee Phil Yarbrough is the force behind a Tea Party scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 9, from 12 noon to 2 pm, at the Village Green Park, in Garden Grove, located at Stanford Avenue and Main Street.
Saturday’s event will feature Congressman Ed Royce, Assemblyman Van Tran and Orange County Republican Party Chairman Scott Baugh, according to the O.C. Register. Tran’s website promises that some guys named Walter Meyers III and Skip Seagraves will be there too.
Royce? How is this guy involved in the tea party when he keeps promoting squishy RINOs in Fullerton?
This sounds like a Tran campaign event. Click here to RSVP, if you are inclined to participate in this circus.
Interesting timing. Matt Taibi just ripped the Tea Party movement in the latest edition of Rolling Stone Magazine. Here are a few excerpts:
Vast forests have already been sacrificed to the public debate about the Tea Party: what it is, what it means, where it’s going. But after lengthy study of the phenomenon, I’ve concluded that the whole miserable narrative boils down to one stark fact: They’re full of sh*t. All of them.
At the voter level, the Tea Party is a movement that purports to be furious about government spending — only the reality is that the vast majority of its members are former Bush supporters who yawned through two terms of record deficits and spent the past two electoral cycles frothing not about spending but about John Kerry’s medals and Barack Obama’s Sixties associations.
The average Tea Partier is sincerely against government spending — with the exception of the money spent on them. In fact, their lack of embarrassment when it comes to collecting government largesse is key to understanding what this movement is all about — and nowhere do we see that dynamic as clearly as here in Kentucky, where Rand Paul is barreling toward the Senate with the aid of conservative icons like Palin.
Thanks for the link. Classic Taibbi.
“A hall full of elderly white people in Medicare-paid scooters, railing against government spending and imagining themselves revolutionaries as they cheer on the vice-presidential puppet hand-picked by the GOP establishment. If there exists a better snapshot of everything the Tea Party represents, I can’t imagine it…
Vern, sneering at “elderly white people” is so PC and easy! These despised citizens freed Europe from the Nazis, freed the Chinese and Filipinos from Jap Fascists, built all the infrastructure you now enjoy. Oil, Rail, freeways, cities, water, and – they paid for their Medicare AND social Security, which lefties have been stealing for years. Ebama stole 700,000,000 out of Medicare, paid for by the “elderly white people,” for his colossal commy project, Ebamacare! The country is great because of THEIR ethics and morality. It is now running on what THEY did, and that engine is running out of fuel!
Okay Lamont, point taken. I think what I, and Taibbi, and Pedroza (the author of this piece) were referring to – FOUR YEARS AGO – was what SOME elderly white people were doing, FOUR YEARS AGO.
