The Al-Awda Palestinian Right to Return Coalition will be holding its ninth annual convention in Orange County this weekend. It’s a very important political gathering surrounding one of the most polarizing issues in world affairs happening right outside of Anaheim in Garden Grove. Indeed, this year’s convention bills itself as “a significant event at a critical time in Arab history.” To that sentiment, journalist Ahmed Shawki will be coming to provide a first hand account on the Tahrir Square revolution in Egypt. On the question of Palestine, strategy sessions will discuss the Palestine Papers and the Boycott/Divestment from Israel movement among other topics.
A lineup of speakers will round out the two-day convention held today and tomorrow at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Garden Grove. Ali Abunibah, co-editor of Electronic Intifada, will join Mavi Marmara survivor Lubna Masarwa, and Palestinian-American spoken word poet Remi Kanazi who personally invites you in the video above.
