From our friends at “Take Back Anaheim” – and I know that a lot of other folks are going to be involved, from the more conservative “Save Anaheim” to the good people of Occupy Orange County. This is the reaction to the depressing votes taken at the end of August 8’s huge meeting at Cook Auditorium, which we described here. I’ll be playing piano there tomorrow myself… (V.)

Take Back Anaheim “Sit-In” Protest
When: Tuesday August 21, 2012; 4:00 PM
Where: Anaheim City Hall-200 South Anaheim Blvd, Anaheim.
Anaheim residents will come out in force on Tuesday, August 21st at 4pm on the steps of Anaheim City Hall in a “sit-in” protest. The sit-in will be in response to the 3-vote majority, Gail Eastman, Kris Murray and Harry Sidhu, who voted earlier this month against:
- The “Let the People Vote” Initiative which would prohibit deals like the recent $158 million tax give-away to one developer.
- District elections that would change the current at-large voting system and give residents fair representation.
Residents will rally together to express their anger and frustration over the council majority’s refusal to listen to the needs of their constituents.
Participants will show support for Anaheim residents on their quest for oversight and transparency over the recent violence and riots in the City.
Citizens are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and pillows to the grass and steps of City Hall. The sit-in will precede the council meeting scheduled for 5pm.

will these same people hold a sit in for their neighborhoods to be taken back from the gang members , will these people hold a sit in for some of the cops that have lost their life in gang bangers shotting at them . will these same people hold a sit in to test their brain skills when cops tell them to move or else . . and will they have their little bandanas covering up their face .
This sit-in is going to do nothing but to make u look bad…spend your energy fighting gang violence…
bobby could not agree with you more
The Anaheim city council once again refuses to listen to its constituents except those who live in comfey Anaheim Hills. I frankly am not surprised by this. I say they are all FIRED! It is up to us the people of Anaheim to take back our city, and in my opinion the only way to do that is too get rid of all of them.
TGO I am happy to see you got your CAPS button fixed.
Mayor Tait and LoGal are both doing the best they can. And LoGal is termed out anyhow. It’s the other three that are the problem.
inge we have been trying to get rid of these people but voters in calif keep putting the same people back in office and calif is in the toliet . so what does that tell you . the public service employees union has to go too . they rule this state . hopefully the folks will see that and vote against them .
LOL…20 people showed up to your protest?? give it a break!..you are in the minority…the majority of anaheim residents support the council majority….men lie, women lie, numbers don’t
We had 20 or 30 people – – 40 or 50 would have been nicer, but it was a success. We got our message across.
I kinda think Bobby (and definitely The Grate One) don’t know what this sit-in was about. Or else Bobby wouldn’t have changed the subject to “gang violence.” You might want to read this post. What does gang violence have to do with corporate welfare or district elections?
Well, actually it DOES, indirectly, when you analyze it. And so we ARE actually fighting gang violence, thank you very much!
Now I see that you write “the majority of Anaheim residents support the council majority.” You’re wrong. You don’t know what the majority of Anaheim residents support. The Mayor funded a poll not long ago that showed overwhelming 85% SUPPORT for his “Let the People Vote” initiative, when it was described to them.
It’s probably true that most Anaheimers still don’t know about it, or about the districting issue. And that’s the way the council majority likes it. Is that good, you think? The council majority won’t even allow Anaheim residents to vote on these two important democratic issues, won’t even let them vote yes or no. Do you think THAT’S good? Do you think most Anaheimers really appreciate being told they can’t vote on these questions?
Well, then maybe you actually agree with us. Like most people who bother to find out what we’re talking about.
vern tell that to diamond this part ( bother to find out what we’re talking about)
bobby to them 20 was victory
Do your own protestors know why they are protesting? Why is there a person holding up a “KKK – Krazy killer kops shoot Mexicans” sign? What does that message have anything to do with redistricting and the tax subsidies?
As Shep Proudfoot said in Fargo, “Don’t know him. Can’t vouch for him.”
Some people are apparently still upset about “Krazy Killer Kops” shooting Mexicans. They seem to have known what they were protesting.
yes this crowd of scholars knows for a fact that kkk cops shoots mexicans = welcome to diamond tv ..
“KKK” is an unfair accusation here, although I understand why it is sometimes used to convey “racist.” Do you deny that they shot Mexicans? (Not just “shot the young men that they killed,” but also shot the community members who protested their excessive force with “less lethal” weapons that have been known to kill people?)
bobby exactly i saw that sign police kills mexicans A GREAT EXAMPLE BY THESE SCHOLARS .. they should be called PREVENT ANAHEIM . FROM THIS GROUP NOT TAKE BACK ANAHEIM . CAPS AGAIN FOR ALL TO SEE ..
I attended this demonstration to support the need for transparency and better representative government in my city. I did not notice the KKK sign until I saw the picture in the OC Register. I think this sign was inappropriate. I highly value the police services.
My first reaction when Mr Diaz was killed was that he provoked it, by running away from the officers. But then allegations that he was executed called my attention. When I read that he was the eight person recently killed by APD, then there is something seriously wrong. The gangs and their place of residence, the so-called barrios, are as old as when Anaheim became a city. They are considered practically ghettos, and when the crime rate increases, the simple explanation is to blame the residents of the barrios.
We tend to forget that we are not immune to the problems at large, like high unemployment, outsourcing our manufacturers to countries with cheap labor, bailing out the banks, housing crisis, etc. This exacerbates the criminal activities, not only the blue collar one. The problem is not the police, but the politicians who have failed to identify and address the needs of the majority of the common people.
The article on this blog, on the relationship between Disneyland and local politicians, illustrates how Anaheim is trapped by people who use their power not in the best interest of the majority of the residents.
Here’s the Fleeing Felon Rule from the Supreme Court’s Tennessee v. Garner decision (taken from Wikipedia):
No personal offense intended, but it is absolutely terrible that people don’t know this rule. If he was able to get away with having sold people in a car some dope, that’s regrettable, but you don’t get to shoot him for running.
And in regards to the tax subsidies..Did you know when your precious mayor was a councilman, He voted IN FAVOR of a tax subsidy for the Doubletree Hotel that was built on Orangewood and Harbor? Look it up if you don’t believe me…that land was producing 0 income for the city for years…since the hotel’s completion, it has produced 4.4 million dollars in TOT revenue (which goes into the city’s general fund), not to mention the sales tax and property tax revenue that the city gets a piece of…not to mention the countless construction and permanent jobs it continues to provide…what has “take back Anaheim” done? All you guys do is whine and bitch about unfairness…life is unfair! Instead, go do something! Do something positive instead of complaining about what other people are or are not doing…Do some graffiti removal, talk to kids about gangs, volunteer at the Anaheim family justice circle…but noo… Instead you wanna sit on the steps of city hall and sing songs…
This comment is awfully close to worthless.
(1) Tait voted for a tax subsidy. So? No one reveres him as a god.
(2) That subsidy paid off for the city. So? That says nothing about whether the recently snuck through hotel tax will.
(3) All Take Back Anaheim does is whine and bitch about unfairness. The group also organizes politically.
(4) Life is unfair! So? We can make it less unfair.
(5) Remove grafitti, talk to kids about gangs, etc. That’s all fine, though it’s a band-aid approach. The real problem is sucking wealth into the upper classes while other people stagnate or descend financially. You don’t want to see people solving that problem because you don’t want that problem solved. Many of us do. We’re happy for you to finger-wag to kids about gangs, though!
here we go the blood sucker diamond sucking wealth into the upper class . bobby here is the example i was talking about their leader in plain sight $$$$$$$ success , busniness all evil to this SO CALLED STINKY OCUPOO LAWYER ..
Almost all of the income gains in the economy since 1979 have gone to the people in the highest income category. (I don’t have time right now to look up whether that’s top 1% or top 2%.)
To focus your attention on that fact, I’m not going to address any other comment you’ve made this morning. You tell me: if all I’m doing is trying to bring that massive shift in income back towards what it was before the rich began looting the country, how does that make me “anti-business.” Doing business is fine — great, even. Looting is not.
Address that, G1.
diamond by your standars and all the post i see on here from you = anti $$$$ any one with money is evil , making money is evil , the rich is evil ,
Grating Juan, please point us to one post…just one…where what Greg writes would cause a rational person to conclude that Greg thinks;
1. everyone with money is evil
2. making money is evil
3. all businesses are evil
4. money is, in and of itself, evil
Do you have the balls to do that? Or are you going to disappear now?
“The real problem is sucking wealth into the upper classes while other people stagnate or descend financially.”
While I admit some people are born into wealth, a lot of people work hard to eventually make lots of money. I’m sure you can agree there’s nothing wrong with that. My problem is that people often blame “the system”, or big corporations, or the government, for their own fails in life. Work hard, save money, don’t buy things you can’t afford, raise your kids right so they get a quality education, etc. My point is that while groups like yourselves are putting so much energy into activism, the people you are trying to help aren’t doing what they need to do to help themselves first. There’s a reason why some people go from poor to middle-class and some people just stay poor…
Have you read a newspaper since August 2008?
Someone else can elaborate — and take on your blinkered doofusness in your last two sentences. You apparently have no idea how hard poor people work and how few opportunities for honest and fair work for them exist.
Of course I know Tait did that years ago. Even only two years ago he was Pringle’s candidate. Part of this whole story is the metamorphosis Tait has gone through lately.
On top of the fact, that the subsidy to the Doubletree was not such an extravagant, one-sided giveaway as January’s one to Garden Walk. (I’m not finding the details right now, but I can get them later today, unless you want to be an honest debater and fill us in.)
And then… you really have the impression that all Take Back Anaheim does is “sit on steps and sing songs,” because you saw us doing that once for an hour? Well, go ahead and think that. When we succeed in making the changes we’re seeking you’ll be scratching your head and saying “how did they do that?” Meanwhile whenever they call up and want to sing songs anywhere, I’ll be there with my keyboard…
boby dont forget this is the ocupoo crowd $$$$$$ is evil to this bunch . they would like handed to them . like the president wants to do . free handouts .
i wont vanish look at diamonds post evil rich people , he has a problem with people who make money .just like ocupoo bobbys post is dead on but just like diamond tv oh it cant be real
I’ll ask you again, and maybe this time you can point to something specific, instead of continuing these fact-free generalities you engage in…
Please point us to one post…just one…where what Greg writes would cause a rational person to conclude that Greg thinks;

Making money is fine. I’ve been known to do so myself. It’s breaking the law and harming others in the process that’s the problem.
Hang on a moment — maybe I misunderstand. Are you defending gang members getting rich by selling drugs? I’m opposed to that, sure. You? (Why?)
