There are still drunks starting fights downtown, and the Fullerton Police Department has convinced the City Council that banishing food trucks will help stop them. The background analysis for a new ordinance adopted at the June 4 City Council meeting cites drunken brawling as the reason for banning food trucks from the downtown area between the hours of 8:00 pm and 5:00 am.
The new approach is a compromise from the old approach of banning them entirely. When the trucks were allowed to operate at night downtown “there were repeated calls for law enforcement to break up fights…”
This is nutty. That’s like blaming gas stations for Drunk drivers. If they didn’t sell them gas they couldn’t drive anywhere . Why don’t they focus on the issue….do they have bars that don’t sell food? Because that can be a problem.
What a load of CRAP!
There have been problems up there since I was a kid and that was a long time ago. There weren’t any hot or cold trucks in the area back then either.
I have many fond, fuzzy memories from those days…
kamikazes anyone…?
Trucks don’t sell alcohol. If you want to ban something, ban retail sales of alcohol. Make Fullerton a dry city. What an archaic point of view.
After 9:00 pm the food trucks should be required to furnish security guards. The guards presence may not stop all such disturbances – but they would have an effect and they could call the cops in a hurry. With added security more civilized customer’s would be encouraged to frequent downtown – including the food trucks.
Food trucks are no more at fault for Fullerton violence than guns are at fault for gun violence.
Well said! Specious and probably unsupportable, but well said!
In fact, I’ll go you one further. Food trucks are LESS at fault!
